I do similar. I taught her the 'wait' command to stop or slow down so I can catch up to her. That little bogger can outrun me unfortunately and I'm in pretty good shape too.

Also, I know a lot of people are against off leashing but I live in a cul de sac and have little traffic in the area except the 5 homes that live in the area and so I've taught her to walk in the area to potty w/o a leash so she knows how to walk off leash w/o running off or in case she darts out but then she never darts out because we taught her to sit in front of the door at all times before it opens, and she has to be released from this command before she steps out....whether it's for her to go out and potty or when we have visitors. Hope these tips help some.

| ![]() We do great with "down/stay" and "wait" at the doors, etc. But how do you train a "stop" command during a full run? I would love to work on that!!! ![]()

| ![]() Try training Coby to 'wait' and putting out a halt hand to show him or we use the uh uh or no or say No Zoe in a stern (not yelling voice) and she gets it when we give her the 'voice'. Here's a good way, put them on a leash indoors, walk or run with them on leash and use whatever phrase you want to use, yield, stop whatever and stop the running/walking, and use that word so they can connect it. Keep doing it until they put two and two together and of course treat them during the training session. Our trainer taught us to do this as well as to go thru 'doorways' and practice this exercise. | ![]() Treats work - we're still working on it and probably will be for months! He'll come for a "cookie," but then wants to play by standing at the kitchen door. He only gets the cookie if he comes, then he has to sit, and now I'm doing down and stay - all for one little cookie! I got so disgusted with the running around to play chase me whenever he saw the leash, I walked out without him last week! I only went downstairs for a couple of minutes. He was sitting inside by the door looking so surprised! I think it worked because he hasn't run from the leash since. I decided to finish up his obedience training this summer, before we get the puppy. I wanted him to set a good example for little Gracie Leigh. What was I thinking? Did I have a momentary lapse of reason? He's a Yorkie! Silly me!

| ![]() Conner runs through the house like he's on fire when we are trying to catch him. We are now in obedience school. We just had our second class tonight. We learned sit/stay and down/stay. Come is either next week or the week after. He is doing very well in school. Hopefully that will continue when we learn come.

Coby does great with "wait" at the door (we do it at the baby gates even) and "staying" with a hand signal until released. And when walking, he'll drop his butt to the ground on a "sit" command. But I must need to work on the outside running on leash stops. I can't imagine him running outside stopping on command. We work hard, but that would be sooo cool!!! ![]()
