| Marley bites Marley is 2 years old and has been biting for some time now. It's not everyone, it's just some people and it's mainly kids. He took a chunk off of my nephews lip for no reason. And just recently he did it again. My nephew did hit him once or twice in the past, but it's been a long time. He bit a little friend of my daughter a couple of months ago. And just tonite he bit another little girl. I also just had a baby and I don't want him to bite her. I know it's only a yorkie what kind of damage can he do. But we do live in a "sue" induced world. Any suggestions would be great.. Thank you, Jas |

| I'm sorry you're having biting problems. My only thought was to maybe try to not let kids around your dog unless they have a treat in their hand. Maybe if he gets a treat every time he is close to a kid it would help. Of course, this would have to be under your close supervision to prevent any more bites. Also, call your vet and see if they have any suggestions. I know there are some places that do behavior modification. It might be worth a shot.

| Is he neutered ? If not, then I would get him done if he is old enough. It sounds like he is either territorial or protecting you - which stems from being an ALPHA male. Be firm with him - tell him off if he even looks like he's going to do it - don't hit him, just use a very stern voice, and put him away out of the room. I would be very worried if he is biting kids - and a baby in the house too - not good. Ask your Vet for advice about neutering and his biting behaviour. Good Luck....poor you, what a worry ! Debra x x x x Oh I see he is old enough at 2 years - then if he isn't neutered, ask your Vet about getting him done, ASAP. Last edited by HighlandYorkies; 08-04-2007 at 08:15 PM. |

| A chunk off of someone's lip is serious damage! Without professional intervention, it's unlikely that this problem will go away. Consult a behaviorist or trainer with experience in dogs who are people-aggressive ASAP. Personally, if I had a baby, I would NOT have a dog with a history of biting children. I'd look into a rescue organization for rehoming this pup. And I'd do it fast before my baby lost a chunk of his/her precious face. Good luck to you.

| " My nephew did hit him once or twice in the past," Sorry that you are having this awful situation. BUT... dogs don't forget... and if children are hitting him, he has to have some way to protect himself! While working on getting him used to with the idea that kids are good........ I would be reacquainting your nephew with a lesson on respect for animals......especially Yorkies. A drop or a hit in the right place can be fatal. Best of Luck with your training!! (I agree that a baby shouldn't be in an area with this dog until problem is solved)

| Children need to be trained how to deal with dogs as well as dogs needing to be trained on how to deal with children. Your nephew may have turned him anxious near children, of course, not meaning to - he's only a child. Now that he has this behavior though, you might want to take him for some behavior modification training before the baby comes. I would be afraid of him biting the baby until he's rehabilitated.
