[QUOTE=kalina82;1278477]Also work with him at home by rolling him over on his back while playing, putting your fingers in his ears and mouth, play with his toes and feet. basically 'torture' him so that he gets used to everything and he'll let you do anything you need to do to him /QUOTE]

Oh and I roll him over on his back quite a bit. He looooves belly rubs, LOL. :D I just need to start brushing his teeth soon.

If by lied you mean because he told you he would weigh, then I whole heartedly agree with you! But if you mean because you wanted a tiny pupy and you are gonna get a bigger one then I have to ask, how do you truly know that you were lied to? Your baby is still really young so he may be only 3 to 4 lbs. As my vet's changing estimate proves, no one can say for sure how big or how small a puppy will be, only time can tell.

At least I can be sure I would not let anything bad happen to him.
I'm still really bitter about my experience with the breeder and will report him for sure.
He is a smart puppy and he's really gotten used to us. He's far from the shy puppy he was when we first got him. He's really confident and outgoing now and I can tell that he feels safe around us.
He was also crying all the time when he first came here. We got no sleep for the first 5-6 nights. He freaked out every time we left him alone or put him in his crate or his play pen and we basically didn't have a quiet moment. Now he never cries or whines and he's fine when we put him in his play area with his puppy gate. I really don't want to go through that noise and ruckus again with a new puppy, LOL. Plus I worry about him having to get used to a new home and new people and being sad that we're not around since he knows us now.
He's doing really great with pee pad training too. I just wish he would stop pulling and chewing on my hair, LOL.

:woof: :woof: :woof: I am so glad to hear you say that!! I was reading this thread and my heart was just racing not knowing what you decided to do!! and I think its wonderful he is sooooooooo cute and he is probably so happy now to be in a clean safe enviornment although i am sure the first couple of days he missed his cell mates..:) I would definelty report his guy to the humane society etc. Those animals are living in unhealthy conditions that can breed germs and sickness!!! You can not only save them but you definetly saved this little guy!! Give him a big hug from me and Nathan!!!!

anyway...i used Royal Canine and maggie went nuts for it. i have not heard anything bad about it. but we have 3 dogs and it is so hard to keep them on separate foods so i have switched maggie to the same thing our other dogs eat.

this is where we get it...i don't know if they are national or not...but i do know they ship their food too.

it's great food and all of our dogs love it.

good luck :)

LOL, you just totally reminded me of when Kevin used to get gas on some days. He sure could clear a room. :D:D

I've heard good things about Royal Canine as well. Thanks for the link. I will check it out.

I just wanted to jump in and say that both of my babies turned out bigger than what the breeder told me they would be. I was told Otis would be around 6, he's 9. and Oliver was supposed to be 7 or 8, and he's 12. It didn't matter to me one bit. They are my companions. I sure wish you luck with this baby. I hope you are comfortable with whatever decision you make, I'm sure you'll receive endless unconditional love from him whether he weighs 6 or 8 pounds. Enjoy your new baby.

Well, I guess I don't really care how much he weighs anymore. I'm not going to give him up.

But what happened was, when I first called him, he told me that he had a puppy who would be 2.5 lbs full grown and I agreed to go see him. Then when I got there and I asked him to confirm how much he would weigh, his response changed to 3 lbs. My boyfriend knew that it was important to me, so he asked the guy to write on the contract that he would only be 3 lbs and guarantee it and this time he said he would guarantee that he wouldn't be more than 4 lbs. He wrote it down and signed it. So he kept changing his word and according to everyone here, how could he guarantee the weight anyway?
I'm pretty sure he was lying. But he will get what he deserves hopefully.

Thank you :) he is a cutie and deserves to have a good, happy life and he will. The first couple of days we got him, he was crying all the time and walking around searching for his siblings. It was heartbreaking. He was so sad and couldn't be left alone for a moment. He is so happy-go-lucky now and very outgoing. We can tell that he feels safe with us and he is fine on his own at night, in his play pen and in his crate. He has actually started going into his crate out of his own free will recently, which makes us happy.

I'm going to report the puppy mill tomorrow. The more I think about it, the worse I feel for all the dogs he has there.

Thanks for the support :)

Hey Punkie, Welcome to YT! Glad to hear you are keeping that little cutie. Thought I'd throw this in, most newborn "skin kids" are 6 or 7lbs and feel like you are carrying nothing. Your baby may not even get that big so hopefully you won't have trouble carrying him around with you. Just something to think about.

spr377 08-01-2007 06:24 PM

I'm glad you decided to keep him! It sounds like he is comfortable with you and loves you!! Now that you have made up your mind to keep him....you can truly love him and let him be a wonderful companion!!

I was just on the phone with my friend and told her that I was keeping him and didn't care anymore if he got to be 7 or 8 lbs. She told me that her cat Gracie is 12 lbs and she is not a big cat. 7 or 8 lbs seemed so big to me before but now it seems so small.

I'm so glad you are gonna keep him! He is adorable! For every bit of love you give him, he will return it 10-fold. Did I read correctly that you are gonna name him Dexter? So cute! He totally looks like a Dexter! :)

Patti 08-01-2007 06:36 PM

I am so happy you are keeping him. I guarantee you won't regret it. I know it is disappointing to not get what you were expecting and paid for. Cali was 1 lb at 10 weeks and is now 5lbs from a backyard breeder. She was so sick her first year and cost a fortune in vet bills and heartache. I was told she would be 3 lbs and that's what I paid for but I love her so much and 5 lbs is tiny. When I decided to get another one I wanted to know exactly what I was getting so I contatced a very reputable show breeder who happened to have a 3lb female that was 13 months old. I went to see her and brought her home. She is exactly what I wanted. The one draw back to these tinies is that when they do get sick you can't take chances and they need to go to the vet. Pixie has been healthy but a bout of vomiting just cost me 360.00 at the er vet, where with my bigger dogs I usually ride it out a day or so.
Your puppy is adorable and looks fine boned so he may surprise you and stay pretty small. I also have had 6 and 7 lb yorkies and they did not seem much bigger than my 5 lb one.
I can tell by your later posts that he winning you over already!!!

Oh, LOL. I can be an airhead at times I guess. :D
My boyfriend is actually a pediatric nurse and he takes care of babies that are 2 or 3 lbs sometimes. It's weird seeing such a small baby. But they are so cute and tiny.

That's the name I like. But my boyfriend doesn't :( I will have to convince him :p

Nah you arent an airhead at all...your husband has a coooooooool job!! Must be very difficult and rewarding all at the same time!! My niece was a preemie and it was so frightening!! She is now 11 and bigger than all my kids were at that age!! Have you bribed him into a name yet...I still say he looks like a Punkie to me!! I just LOVE that name!!

Yes, he loves his job. He works in the cardiac critical care unit, so his babies are very sick, but when he gets to help them and see them get better, he feels really good about it. :)
I'm still trying to convince him for the names I like, but he ended up having to go into work for the night, so hopefully by morning time the little guy will have a name :D
It really is scary when you see a premature baby that small. I'm glad your niece is healthy and strong.

OpheliaLoved 08-01-2007 06:56 PM

I've been reading this thread, and I know you've said already that you are keeping him but I just want to re-assure you :) My dog was "supposed" to weigh 5 lbs full grown. When I took him to the vet last month, he weighed 6.1 lbs at only 4 months  The vet said that anything could happen at this point- his growth could plateau in a month, right around 7lbs or so, or he could continue growing past 10 lbs!!!!Just to show how unpredictable it can be!

Also, when you carry around a bag of food, you have to keep in mind the weight distribution. I work in a nursury school/preschool, and carry around 15-20 lb kids all day, so I don't even notice when I carry my 6 lb yorkie. However, I do always think that his food is heavier than him, when in fact he is slightly heavier than the bag of food!!! It is completely different. ;) I carry my dog ALL the time- sometimes too much, I think. He really isn't heavy at all. Also, you'll still be able to buy bags for him that he'll fit in, and it will make carrying him a little easier on your arms.By the way, Innova is a great food. I wanted to feed it to my dog, but I couldn't find it anywhere around here, so I had to go with a similar food of a different brand. Good choice!

I'm so glad you are keeping him! These guys really nestle into your heart, don't they?

Thorsmom 08-01-2007 07:02 PM

Size isn't everything

I have had yorkies for over 20 years. If he is 5-6 pounds, he will still be small. Why are you so set on getting a tiny one? I have found personality, disposition, and mannerisms are more important than size. He has a pretty face and his hair looks good and healthy. Usually the small ones have a lot of personality, skin, allergy and neurological issues. Please consider keeping him, I have never been able to giveup a baby because of its size. He has so much love to give.

puppy_Love08 08-01-2007 07:03 PM

I'm so glad you are keeping him :) Please keep us informed how things are going.

I just found this thread. Welcome to YT and congratulations on your cutie pie new baby.

Max is 8 lbs and I like it. He's nice and sturdy. He was supposed to be 4 lbs fully grown!
