How about Ralphie? I know it's a little strange but that is what I was going to name my yorkie if I got a boy but I ended up getting a little girl who I named Lola :). I still have a couple of weeks before she comes home and I can hardly stand waiting. I am so excited! Good luck with your baby! He is adorable. |

Hahaha...I know. That is actually where I got the name! Such a funny little boy :) |
Hey guys, Sorry for the late post. Super busy day yesterday :D . So we took him to the vet again to have him thoroughly checked out and he is super healthy and just a regular happy puppy. He has a really healthy heart and he weighs 1.9 lbs according to the scale at the vet's office. He was 1.8 on the same scale a week ago. She said he would probably be about 6-7 full grown, but according to charts online, he will be 4.5-5. I guess it doesn't really matter. We are just glad that he is healthy and happy considering where he came from. We also got him started on his deworming and heart worm medicine and he is dues for his second booster on august 20th. Once he gets all of his boosters, we are looking forward to socializing him with other puppies. The vet said that there is a puppy socialization place down the street, where puppies just go in and play together. That sounds like it would be really fun. He is also having a stool sample tested but we haven't gotten results yet. We saw a bit of bloody looking mucus type thing in his stool just a couple of hours before we took him to the vet, so that was king of scary. They are testing it and said no news would be good news. As for a name, my boyfriend and I finally both agreed on two, Milo and Oliver. We have been calling him both to see which one he likes, LOL. Yup, we're silly people :D. But it looks like Milo is the one that's sticking. I just want to thank everyone on here who have been super nice and incredibly supportive and gave me a world of information. I really appreciate it :) Thanks to you guys now I'm a mommy and I'm really pleased with my decision :) |

http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...N=2035803&Ne=2 He used it to sleep in and fit comfortably in it. This little guy should have no problems fitting his bed, crate, pee pad, food, water and all his toys in it and still have room to move around. Thank you again for the support and all of this useful info :) |
my little boy had that bloody mucas around the stool.....it was only that he was sensitive to the food I was feeding (Royal Canin) That is a great food, however, my boy was just sensitive to it. I now feed Innova. |

Unfortunately not everyone on here has been as nice as they could. Some people though, like Celstu1 and Ozzie's Person and others were really sweet to stick up for me. Honestly, I was really confused and bitter and resentful because of my bad experience with this breeder and all the nice and encouraging comments went so much further than telling me off in helping me make up my mind. |

The name is looking like Milo. My boyfriend still like Oliver better, but I think the little guy likes Milo :D |

Oh important question We have been trying to pee pad train out little guy since we don't take him out that much especially because he doesn't have all of his booster shots yet and we pretty much live in doggy central. The vet and her technician told us yesterday that we should crate train instead though and that it's easier. Apparently we should leave him in the crate "all the time" except for when he is eating or going to the bathroom or playing with us. When he is supervised, we just leave the puppy gate open and he goes back and forth between his own "room" and the rest of the apartment. When he isn't supervised, we close the gate and he has everything he need in his area, with lots of room and he does fine. We were told that this is wrong and that he will just start peeing everywhere and not learn anything. We actually thought that he was doing pretty well. He has accidents of course, all the time actually, but he's so young and we thought it was normal. They told us to take him outside every 3 hours and right after he eats. That doesn't sound easier to me, LOL. Plus how can we take him out when we're sleeping at night or if we're away for more than 3 hours for whatever reason? We don't really feel comfortable leaving a little puppy in the crate for that long, but we really don't know anything about this since we never had a puppy before of our own other than the family dogs that our parents took care of :D I also read that toy dogs are hard to potty train and may have accidents throughout their lives. What does everyone think is a good idea? Crate training or pee pad training? |
Milo, huh? Sounds like a good name to me. I didn't crate train, but from a lot of the posts I've seen, crating is primarily for sleeping. Is this right? Someone who's crated, please help here!:) I think the arrangement you've made is good. We left Ozzie gated in the kitchen with bed, toys, water, and papers when he couldn't be supervised. (Ozzie was VERY slow to potty train but a lot of it was MY fault because I didn't have a lot of time during his puppydom to make it work.) |

We have been pee pad training our Eury because of where we live. Even if we take her outside, there isn't anywhere she can go like a grass plot. We have to walk two blocks for that and that's not very easy to do when she's really gotta go. Regarding the crate training for at night, we also use a pen for her at night and when we are out. It has her sleeping area (her travelling bag), food, water, toys and her pee pad. And we had no issues... in her pen, she uses her pad every time she has to go potty. As she gets older, she uses it less and less at night cause she can hold it longer and longer. One big plus to this, we can sleep through the night cause she has everything she needs. Being my hubby is military and getting up early is the norm, I can't tell you how wonderful this is! Now as to accidents, etc. Yeah Eury still has the occasional accident but she's also still a puppy at almost 5 months. Our vet said to expect accidents until she's about a year old and then only once in a while if she gets overly excited, nervous, etc. We hope that our next assignment allows us to have a place with a back yard though so she can enjoy that. Anyways, I hope all that helps. And I like Milo, it fits is cute face. :) Ya know I was reading once that cats and dogs seem to respond better to names that end in vowel sounds. Dunno why. LOL |
Milo is a wonderful name !!! Love it. I did the pee pad training and if you are interested you can pm me. |
I LOVE the name Milo!! Good choice!! Dawn |

I just have to say...I have a little 5 lb rescue here right now and am amazed at what a tiny little thing he is. DH and I are both afraid of crushing him. 3 lbs is incredibly small...that being said, am I reading this right??? Did you decide to keep him???? Good luck whatever you do.:) |

Sounds like you did the exact same thing with him that we're doing now. Glad to hear it works. I wasn't too keen on the idea of crating him all day and night. The vet tech said her dog is in the crate all day and all night unless he is eating, playing with his family or going to the bathroom. Seemed kind of excessive to me. But who am I to say? I'm clueless, LOL. |

Good to hear it's working for you as well. He's still having accidents in his play area too :( He doesn't always make it to the pee pad. But it's not so bad since we covered the floor in his play area with these rubber mats that interlock like leggo pieces, so we can just take them apart and wash them when they get dirty. Plus it gives him a sturdy, no slip surface to run around on. He's starting to go into his carrier on his own lately to sleep, so that's a good thing. He hardly uses his actual bed anymore. I'm glad people seem to like the name Milo. I think it's really cute. Reminds me of that spunky Jack Russell from the movie The Mask :D |

Regarding blood/muscus in stool. I have tried to switch my baby to Innova but it did not work no matter how slow I've tried to do it. He was on rice/chicken diet and got better but the minute he eats Innova even a bit he starts to get loose stool with bloody muscus in it. I thought it's an allergy to chicken but it's not. He eats other foods with chicken fine. Then I thought it's barley, eggs etc. I still cannot pinpoint it. I tried all of them separately and he was fine. I got lost in exclusion process  I just don't feed him Innova anymore. If switching slowly (let say in about 7-8 days) does not work then don't keep him on Innova. My baby had pretty bad problem with it and was not feeling good at all. I did not suspect food in the beginning because it is a very premium food. |
