Also, when you carry around a bag of food, you have to keep in mind the weight distribution. I work in a nursury school/preschool, and carry around 15-20 lb kids all day, so I don't even notice when I carry my 6 lb yorkie. However, I do always think that his food is heavier than him, when in fact he is slightly heavier than the bag of food!!! It is completely different. I carry my dog ALL the time- sometimes too much, I think. He really isn't heavy at all. Also, you'll still be able to buy bags for him that he'll fit in, and it will make carrying him a little easier on your arms.By the way, Innova is a great food. I wanted to feed it to my dog, but I couldn't find it anywhere around here, so I had to go with a similar food of a different brand. Good choice!

I'm so glad you are keeping him! These guys really nestle into your heart, don't they?
-O
Thank you
He definitely knows how to make people love him.
You must be right about the weight distribution thing because I have an easier time carrying my friend's cat than I had with the food and according to my friend, the cat is 12 lbs!
My boyfriend and I went to this store yesterday called Bark & Fitz. They had the cutest little outfits, harnesses and carriers. So many cool toys too. I'm so excited to get him some pretty stuff!!! LOL.
He really likes Innova. More than he liked the Eukanuba I think. So I'm happy about that. He's eating more now.

Dexter (duh LOL)
Bently
Bogie
Mac
Rascal
Little Bit
Connor
Mojo
Mokey
Peppy
Sarge
Timmy
Dizzy
Mokie
Ziggy

ok..i'm done. i'm no good at boy names never had a boy dog i had to name. My dane was already named when I got him (Jackson)

I am excited to hear more as we go along here I can't wait to watch him grow

word of advice...if his hair starts getting long around his eyes and bridge of his nose...DONT CUT IT!!!!!!!!!! you WILL be tempted to get it out of his eyes. but fight the urge!!! I promise, you will regret it. look at some of the pics of maggie and you will see how we are battling with growing her face hair out. even if you don't want him to have a full coat, let the hair on his face grow until it lays down naturally. then you can keep it trimmed to a reasonable length. I wish someone had warned me about how hard it would be to grow it out once it was cut short. i took maggie to a groomer and they buzzed her muzzle. now we are struggling BIG TIME to grow it out enough that it will not stick in her eyes. poor baby!!

she will be so pretty with it grown out...I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for all the name suggestions. I like them all

Poor Maggie. She still looks adorable though

So I should just not touch his hair on his face at all? I do like the full coat look and the puppy cut. Is it super hard to take care of a full coat? I've been brushing my little guy just to get him used to it even though he doesn't need it.

But has anyone here had a puppy who was almost 2 lbs by 11 weeks that turned out the be less than 5 lbs when grown?
If it's any consolation, we had a yorkie named Rebel. I (not knowing his true age because breeder didn't give me papers for 6 months) got him when he was a little over 6 weeks of age (she told me he was older). At this age, he weighed a little over 2 lbs. By charts, he should have been over 7 lbs but full grown, he weighed 4 1/2 lbs - 4 3/4.

At least I can be sure I would not let anything bad happen to him.
I'm still really bitter about my experience with the breeder and will report him for sure.
He is a smart puppy and he's really gotten used to us. He's far from the shy puppy he was when we first got him. He's really confident and outgoing now and I can tell that he feels safe around us.
He was also crying all the time when he first came here. We got no sleep for the first 5-6 nights. He freaked out every time we left him alone or put him in his crate or his play pen and we basically didn't have a quiet moment. Now he never cries or whines and he's fine when we put him in his play area with his puppy gate. I really don't want to go through that noise and ruckus again with a new puppy, LOL. Plus I worry about him having to get used to a new home and new people and being sad that we're not around since he knows us now.
He's doing really great with pee pad training too. I just wish he would stop pulling and chewing on my hair, LOL.

I am SO glad to hear this! I honestly don't think you'll be disappointed. These little guys (regardless of how big they end up being) just have SO much love to give. NO ONE on this site will dispute that!

Congratulations! And it really DOES get better. Ozzie cried every night, all night, for a week. I tell him now that he would cry all night if he WASN'T home.

anyway...i used Royal Canine and maggie went nuts for it. i have not heard anything bad about it. but we have 3 dogs and it is so hard to keep them on separate foods so i have switched maggie to the same thing our other dogs eat.

this is where we get it...i don't know if they are national or not...but i do know they ship their food too.

http://shopping.netsuite.com/delivermypetfood

it's great food and all of our dogs love it.

good luck
I just bought my dogs royal canin not even 2 weeks ago... and although they LOVE it, its $13 for a 3# bag around here. That does not even last 2 weeks with my 2 boys. So Im not going to keep them on it. Im thinking of switching to that blue buffalo food. I can get that around here for cheaper. I'd rather go with Canidae but I can't find it around here! I read an article about how food and temperment are related. How diet affects a dogs training, personality and temperment. Canidae was on the list of top 10 foods to feed your dog for good traits.

One of my boys yelps in his sleep... I think he must be dreaming or something! It was really scarey at first but I got used to it. I just pet him for a min and he settles down and goes back to sleep.

As for playing/walking/exercising... let him go for it... it can't hurt him. Just don't let him jump off things like the bed, couch, etc... he could break a leg or as Ive heard develop luxatting patella over time. (that is something wrong with his knee joints I believe) get him some stairs or a ramp that he can get on & off the couch/bed easily on his own.

Good job with the harnesses!! I had no idea on that one. I did find out quickly with my first pup ... amazingly the STORE I bought him from (its a local pet store who gets pups from local breeders, not a chain pet store who gets pups from puppymills) gave me a collar and leash to buy for him. I had no idea and I bought them. I think I found out the next day after reading the book on yorkies to put them in a harness not a collar. So I went out the next day and bought him a harness.

Also, as your pup hits about 6 months, he'll start teething. I HIGHLY recommend you getting and indoor playpen for dogs, or an x-pen. Put him in that when you can't watch him or when you need to leave him alone. don't just gate him into a room, he'll eat the walls!!! I made this mistake and ended up with 2 huge holes in my walls that i had to have fixed. HAHA They will EAT ANYTHING you leave out... so put ALL your stuff away! My boys chewed through about 10 - 15 pairs of shoes, the walls, the baseboards, bottom of the cabinets, 2 beds, 10 harnesses & leashes, pants, bras, socks, laptop cord, $100 sunglasses and much much more stuff! Remember its your fault for leaving it out.. not his for chewing it. Thats how I got through that stage! Man it was tough!!! I was mad at myself A LOT for about 3 months!!! HAHA

I had my Dex fixed when he was 6 months old. He had uummm .. 'issues' so to speak, and I was sick of seeing the lipstick everyday.... the vet said fixing him should make that problem go away, but I had to wait until he hit 3lbs and 6 months bc he had a heart murmur and the vet wouldn't put him under if he weighed less than 3lbs for his own safety. His murmur closed when he was a year old (the lipstick problem never went away!!!). My fletcher is not fixed yet. I'd love LOVE LOVE to stud him out. I think hes BEAUTIFUL!!! I wish I knew a breeder (reputable of course) who would want to use him.

Anyways.... good luck with him!
