| Help with 2 yorkies together, PLEASE I posted this in Yorkie Health and Diet, 2 days ago and I am not getting any replies. Therefore, I decided to try this part of YT, to see if I get any answers here. I really need help with this, please! I know so many are participating in the hunt for Zeke, so I'm almost sure that is why I'm not hearing from anyone, about this. My heart is aching for Maureen and praying they get Zeke back, NOW!! Here is what I posted in the other part: I have always left dry food out for Ginger, even tho she seldom eats all of it. I give her 1/2 of her daily amount at breakfast and then the rest sits in the bowl until morning. Some evenings, she will eat all of it, right at bedtime!! The amount left in the morning differs all the time. I give her wet food for supper, with different veggies, rice or chicken mixed with it. My question is: Now that we have the new baby (almost 4mos old) how do I leave dry out for Ginger, so that ShyAnne won't eat it? And, how do I leave dry out for ShyAnne, so that Ginger won't eat it???? I don't know what harm the dry baby food would be for Ginger, but I don't think it wouldn't be good for ShyAnne to eat Ginger's adult dry food. Anyone know how to handle this situation??

| Oh my goodness, I am still going thru this now and my Kodak is 3yrs old and Kamari will be 8 months. I have to put her behind the gate with her bowl and water dish. I have to feed them seperately so she will not eat Kodak's food. As soon as he would walk away from his dish, she would race over and gobble up his food. It would piss me off so bad because she eats puppy food and I just started giving her soft food. My only solution came when I split them up to eat. I didn't want her to mess her little bowels up eating his food everyday, so I seperate them. Good luck.

| diet If your adult is not over weight, eating puppy food for a few months until your puppy is ready for adult won't hurt. |

| My vet told us to put them both on the puppy food until Oliver was at the age to switch. It's better for the adult to eat puppy food (As long as weight is not an issue) than for the puppy to eat the adult food. Brooke |

| I feed Canadae All Stages so I can leave it out all the time. When I got Uma she was 4 mo. old and my Juju was 6 yrs. old and Juju is under 3 pounds so she really needs to free feed. It has worked out beautifully for me. I would recommend this food for all ages.

| Thankyou for the great advice everyone! Ginger isn't overweight so I think leaving the puppy food out for their free feeds, is best. They have been sharing the water bowl with no growls of ownership from Ginger, so that's a good sign. We sectioned off an area for ShyAnne, for feeding and peepad training. The other nite I put Ginger in with Shy, when I gave them their suppers, and they both ate away nicely. Shy is much quicker than Ginger tho, as she is still a puppy, so she went right over to Ginger's dish. She was promptly told off by her sister and she sat right down, beside her and waited for Ginger to finish. Then she went and licked Ginger's bowl spotless. Not that there was much left to clean up! LOL I guess what I'll do then is feed them their meals, separately - either side of the room, and then put out puppy food for free feeding. Ginger seems to love the puppy food so I can't see that being a problem, either. Do they gain weight, on puppy food, very quickly?? Or too much weight? I'll just have to watch Ginger, I guess and see how she does. Thanks again for the quick replies everyone!!

| both foods When I brought Boston home at 7weeks he ate the same food Zoey was on which was Eukenoba puppy. Zoey stayed on that until Boston was 4 months(Last month). Now I've switched them both over to Canidae because it is for both adult and puppies. |

| From my experience Free Feeding is guarantied to fail (if the plan is to get the dog to eat more). Controlled feeding regularly has improved the appetite of dogs dramatically. Every dog I have been around and heard about in free feeding, they all have the same problem, do not eat the food well. The dogs that have now changed to regular meals, not free feeding, have all started to eat better, gain more weight and look much better in the body. For ex. if you always had your food in front of you, all day long, you would nibble at it a little during the day. But if you only got food during lunch and then dinner you would probably finish the meal (before it goes of the table). Or at least you would eat much more of it. Many people switch brand of food when they think their dog is bored by eating the same food. But that is only a quick solution that will not last. When the thing the dog is bored about is to have the food available all day long. With regular feeding the dog has something to look forward to, he is happy to see the food and is excited about it. He has build up an appetite since his last meal and if he knows that the food will go "off the floor" after 15 or 30 minutes he is more likely to finish his meal (which is the goal). |

| Mine eat twice a day when I feed them and share water bowls all over the house. Any food left out would be eaten by either of them. We did scheduled feedings with Loki even before Sammy. It really does work out very well. They eat Canidae too.

| Thankyou everyone. I've gotten some good ideas to ponder. Ginger is only 4.5 lbs and even tho she has always had her dry food available, she seldom eats all of it. I think I will keep to feeding them their wet food in separate places and leave the dry out (I like the idea of puppy/adult dry together) and see what happens. Just going to have to watch them and see how they do over the next couple weeks.
