But it seems that almost everyone here posts about getting the bile acid test done and the results are never good. Has anyone had a good result? I am so scared to take Armani. He is has no symptoms other than that he drinks a lot of water and pees a lot... but he plays so hard that after runnin around after him even for 5min I get thirsty!! He never had to hold his pee, he is pee pad trained so technically he can go anytime he wants, and he does. But I wanted to get the test just for a peace of mind and I am terrified. Arent there any good news people out there?

He sounds normal to me. An excellent repro Vet told me a couple of years ago that if there are no symptoms not to worry.
The BA test is vastly misunderstood by many Vets as well as breeders and owners. There are many many reasons for a high BA and you cannot go by that. A high BA can be caused by infections, high protein puppy food diets, being on Albon for coccidia and that takes many months for things to go back to normal. I am sure other drugs and medications can also elevate liver function levels and BA results. Go by the typical symptoms of Liver shunt rather than relying on the BA test.
He also told me not to do it at less than 6 months of age unless you are seeing most of the symptoms of LS.. There is a urine BA test however, he also told me it would have to be severe shunt for there to be a high reading. A minor shunt would not show high levels in the urine.

Thanks for your reply. It def puts some things at ease. The peeing and drinking was bugging me as it is one of symptoms. But I honestly think its because he goes so crazy during play time, its hot and well.. he is a puppy!! He eats normally, acts fine after food. He does like his naps but I think that references back to the playing lol. so thanks for the good advice!

I had both mine tested a while back and both came back normal I think I had the same issues and I got them both checked. The results were absolutely normal. I hope all is well

I think you are right it is normal for them to play and get hot and then drink and pee.
A LS puppy has anorexic problems from the beginning. They will go to head pressing and circling as a typical symptom. Most of the time they are undersized puppies and will be 4 lbs or less as adults.
Having said that, it doesn't mean every small sized puppy is going to be an LS but it is a reason that I won't sell a small sized puppy until it is almost a year and already spayed/neutered. Problems will usually show up before then and definitely when under anesthesia. I would rather have the problem and keep the pup here to its life span that put it with some unsuspecting pet owner. If I do sell it after determining it is okay, I still give genetic guarantees to the age of 5 years old.
I remember my Frasier was the whiz kid until he was about a year old. He is now 7 years old, a healthy 7 lbs, I showed him at the dog shows here in Canada, he has his championship and he is the sire of my Liana, she has her championship, and he is the grandsire of my boy Jamie who also is in the show rings more than half way to his championship.

Yes i had good results! Diggy's post # was 7! He had seizure's, temporary blindness, walking in circles disoriented, and face rubbing. He was only 1.1 pounds and appeared under sized. I thought for sure he had a liver shunt.....ended up he was hypoglycemic. He is now 3.2 pounds and looking more like a teapot everyday! He just needed those meals every 4 hours! Keep you thoughts up! There are good stories out there!

Oh and Diggy pees like every 20 minutes to half hour! Drinkls like a lillte hogger, sometimes so fast he pukes. I think he is a dominant dog and taking marking to the extreme! Maybe Armani is just instinctivly marking. I can tell when Diggy is going to go on a every half hour pee spree by how much water he woofs down. They are puppies and both boys. I think your baby sounds like he is doing great!

Glad to hear it turned out well for u!!! I was worried, all you ever see are the posts about bad results, good results should be posted as that gives encouragement to the rest of us. Armani doesn do head pressing, running in circles (except when he is excited and going crazy running from one toy to another!! ) I was really freaked cuz it seemed anyone getting the test was getting bad news. Armani loves to eat.. except he hates the kibble, I think it is because he spoiled and knows that if he wont eat kibble his grandma gives him chicken but other than that he will eat any cheese, chicken, apples and anything else I give him really. Except for when he is tired, then he wont eat, but he wakes up hungry as a horse

Tatiana11, this is in some cases true, but there are also many times that LS shows up in bigger yorkies, so you can't necessarily guide yourself by size. My yorkie is 11lbs, not undersized at all, and he has liver shunt/mvd. Also, a friend of mine has a yorkie that is 11lbs who also has a severe case of MVD, and that yorkie is not undersized either.

liver shunt scares the heck out of me and i debate back and forth about having my babies tested. of course, they show no symptoms and they are not small (well 4lbs and 6lbs) so i don't know
