| YT Addict | If he didn't care for the pup, he would not have bothered. Thats not entirely true. There are trolls all over the net. I am not saying that he is a troll!!!! However at first with that thread he had, I did. I am only being honest. He came here asking questions yes, that is a plus in his favor, " 20 hrs in his crate" "Chris and Heidi time" "just to get away from the dog[it]" that just pushed me over the edge! Since you have read all his other posts I take it you have seen these quotes. My unsolicited advice it take a good long look at the entire situation and then think about Tanners best interest. We love dogs here. |

| Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i agree this is totally getting out of hand. i'm surprised at what many YT veterans had to say to these two people. I in no way think they are being cruel to Tanner by crating him while they are at work and at night. I do the same with Morgan. Think about it. Alot of people crate their dogs at night. Morgan is in her pen at night for 8-9 hours most of the time. Sometimes she sleeps with me, but most of the time she is in her pen. Morgan also stays in her crate while i'm at work, and that's from 7:30 - 4:30, so another 9 hours. Am i a bad yorkie owner because i crate her for this long? do you want to say that to me as well because i basically do the same as they do? Those that know me on YT know that morgan is very spoiled, and she is also very well trained. So it is possible for a dog to be crated for a long time and also be a very spoiled pup. I think alot of people on YT forget that yorkies, tho small and very very cute, are Dogs. I mostly treat morgan the same way i would treat another dog that was 10 times her size.

| I read that Tanner was in his cage from 10 pm until 5:30 pm - And that they were upset that they had to bath him everyday cause his was lying in his urine and poop. Sorry, but that's not crate training, IMO that is neglect. And I don't think that's right and it certainly upset me thinking about poor Tanner in that situation. Then I read that "Chris" usually leaves him in the crate for an additional hour until Heidi gets home - And he wonders why "it" doesn't like him as much as he like Heidi. He came here for advice, and I hope they stay and learn, but their practices so far on how to treat and train Tanner have upset me and others - B/c we care so much for the wellfare of these little guys. All these things were posted by them, how could people not comment? This is a public forum. |

| I've been reading all these posts and have only one thing to say. When you have a child that you feed, bathe, buy lots of nice clothes and toys for, it isn't enough unless you take care of their mental and emotional needs as well. If that is not met then I have to say would fall into neglect. I see some fur-kids that are suffering from neglect. Dogs are social animals and not to be locked up in a crate all those hours. |

Heidi - I think people were as upset at what NODAK said about the way he treated you, as well as how he treated Tanner...

I myself never used a crate, they have one, but they only have 'cage match wrestling' in it. I contained mine in a spare room while I was at work (for about the first year). Yes, I am gone on average 10 hours a day. Yes, part of thinks they didn't deserve that kind of life, it makes me sad at times, b/c I want them to be around people more...But, now that they have free run down stairs while I am gone, they just sleep the day or look out the window at everything going on outside. Do mine have some 'mental' problems b/c of this??? Probably so. I am still battling poop eating (here and there), but it used to be everyday! TJ barks pretty much at ALL movement outside. Roxy has mild anxiety. Mental health is just as important as Food/Water/Shelter.

I am thinking more along the lines of an x-pen instead of just putting him in my bathroom.. I wouldn't want him to chew up my cabinets.. He ran free one day in the house and chewed up all of my moldings.

| Usually I'm at work for 9-10 hours. Mine run free in the house. But I don't have kids so the evenings are spent with my boys. I have been known to turn down evening or weekend plans because that's my time with my boys. Not great for my social life, but I'd rather be at home spending time with them than doing most anything else. I think you can have healthy, socialized dogs even if you work long hours. I don't think they should be crated that long. I don't crate mine, but it's because I couldn't handle listening to them cry, it broke my heart. I want them to sleep with me. And who would guard the neighborhood from my front window if they were in a crate all day?

I know, I was agreeing with Yorkiedaze, but I also wanted to post the reality of that with a situation of being away for long hours. I wanted to to show that I don't leave mine in a cage for long, long hours, but at even what I was doing (which I felt was minimum containment) - that I still have some mental and behavioral issues to deal with. So, I could only image what kind of mental and behavioral issue Tanner will have with his 'living' conditions on a daily basis.

Here's the thing.. CHris does love Tanner. The problem that he had was everyone was just telling him to do one thing and that was to get rid of Tanner. I'm sorry, but there are other options and yes they will be done.. But most of you gals could not get past the crate. And no questions were even asked about the crate.. The size..What was in there.. ECT. Chris has never had a dog or a puppy.. SO he never knew what to expect. I of couse as I have mentioned before have had a few... He came here to get pointers and learn some new things. He was definitely deterred from that and it got to the point where just liked to come here to listen to you ladies comment on how he was treating the dog. Which I can tell you is nothing like he says. Plus.. Tanner grew to be scared of Chris.. Now chris is 6'3 and little tanner is no more than 5 inches off of the ground, so I can see how intimidating that can be. So Chris was extremely frustrated with that situation. Update on that situation: Tanner actually has put his ears up while near Chris.. It's a huge step. ANyways... regardless of who was at fault and the insults that were thrown.. I am definitely Heidi.. And chris is definitely Chris.. We are definitely two different people.. I have my own opinions and he does as well. He is definitely sarcastic and once he knows that he has your goat.. He will keep prying.. Just for future refrence.. ALthough he is banned forever.
