| Wow, this is such short notice to try and train him to love his kennel. I'd suggest putting his favorite treats in and let him eat from inside it. Also 45 minutes before he is to go into the kennel for the flight you give him four drops of Rescue Remedy. It is all natural, so no worry there. It has natural herbs that calm, and it does work. Be sure to take a chew toy and a favorite treat. I find the Gerber toddler treats are great for traveling. I buy the fruit juicy that's like gummy bears, and the Gerber Graduates finger foods such as the banana puffs, strawberry puffs, veggie puffs and peach. That is if your allowed to take them on the plane. I'm not sure if your even allowed to bring your own drinking water on the plane. YOu may have to buy the water when you get there. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I am going to go to Florida and since I can only fly with one then Teddy's going to have to be in cargo and he hates being inside the carrier also. I need to get that remedy.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | My vet recommended Dramamine or benydryl....Call your vet though dont just give this as dosage goes by size of dog....the vet also can give a relaxer like a lot of dogs get during storms. You also need to make sure your baby isnt stressed for a long time...as this can also affect blood sugar...Id suggest having Nutrical or Kayro on hand along with food. When I fly with mine I do what I can to sneak them out lol I get yelled at but oh well....i also have a chew toy (bully stick) or something to offer them. If I were you and you know he hates the carrier....call your vet to see about relaxing him. He really needs to be calm at such a young age. Oh if they do yell at me I pull just enough of the carrier out from under seat to put my hand in with them so they dont feel alone

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | What airline? I was allowed to bring on both dogs as long as they fit in one carrier that meets the size standards. both Bella and Ada were under 7 pounds totalling 14 pounds we were allowed up to 20 so they both came right on board with us! Justthought maybe you can try to get both on with you

| i did it it will be okay i flew with TJ about two weeks ago and he did great. first is he going to be flying in the passanger area with you( i hope so). get a pet carrier like one of those purse things. TJ loves his and take him with you place like to the pet store and keep him in it. planes are different though because the sound of the engine. it calmed TJ down he slept the whole time. talk to your puppy that will sooth him too hearing you voice. i would try the benedryl before the day on the plane because it made TJ very hyper instead of sleepy. i also bought one of those nylabones to put in his carrier as well as a baby size fleece blanket that seemed to help too. most airports will let you take him out of his carrier when you are in the loading area that way you can hold him. after we took of in the plane i put TJ on my lap (still in his carrier you cant take him out on the plane)and i talked to him. some people thought i was crazy lol. well good luck !!! |

| Why wouldn't you just get a dog sitter when you go on vacation?? It seems like it would be so much easier.... |

| Am I missing something. Did you say 8 week old? There are certain guidelines for airlines and the dog must have certain shots. And at 8 weeks the dog, has not had all the shots it needs for the health certificate. I might be wrong.

| Well if you don't have the time to take care of your dog, you have to spend money to have someone else take care of it for you. If you don't have time OR money...you shouldn't be getting a dog. What are you going to do when you have kids? You both need money so you work, but then you have to pay someone to take care of the kids (can't leave them in a cage for 20 hours!).

| Do you two not get a lunch break during work? Why can't you use your lunch break to let Tanner out and eat a quick lunch at home? Even people that work all day can come home and let their dog out during the day.

I know some people here equate dogs to their own children...and I think that's an atrocious comparison....as they really aren't the same situation at all. I don't even need to get into reasons how it's different....maternity leave....etc...

To answer this particular question though, we both commute about 45 minutes each way so we wouldn't have the time.

| i cant get a dog sitter, im flying home, i saw him when i was here in NC, fell in love with him, and got him, so my vet is in FL (who he hasn't visited yet, he has an app. on wed., but i called her and she recommended getting a muzzle?) also he is getting better with his kennel, idk know if hes getting used to it, or if hes just losing his voice im flying delta and there regulations say the minimum age is 8 weeks, which is good in my situation, otherwise i dont know how i would've got him home. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | Cause I'm going to visit family there and they said it's fine for me to take my dogs and I consider my dogs part of my family so I am taking them with me. Also I don't trust anyone with my dogs unless it's someone I know, or I know are really good with dogs. I've never left them alone before.
