tinkerbell not listening

OMG! I was complaining about the same problem. She runs with everythin in her nouth and hides, food, socks, underwear, pens ect.... I have to trick her and say,"Mommys leaving" or "Who wants a treat" Then she bolts from under the bed. I recently moved my bed, and I found toliet paper rolls, socks, chewed up underwear, life savers, a brush.....Does this ever end?

That is what we are chasing all the time. I try to remember and find the dryer sheet before I bring in the clothes, but invariably I forget and it's OFF TO THE RACES...with Emmy usually winning. She will only give up socks and dryer sheets for CHEESE--her favorite thing in the world. So far Oscar does not seem to have the same fascination with socks and dryer sheets.

As far as the staring as you eat thing...put her food down beside you when you eat. Yorkies want to eat with you...I leave the food out all day in their "food area" but when we sit down to eat dinner, I always move their bowls right beside my hubby and me. They scarf down their food!

Try stuffing a kong and freezing it. Put it in the crate with her at mealtimes. A frozen one will keep Joey happy for quite a long time.

will that confuse a puppy that we're trying to train not to go potty in the crate? We've been avoiding putting treats or water in his crate for that reason, but if it doesn't hurt and it keeps him content.... i'd love to try it.

i think the kong idea is wonderful thank u hopefully tomorrow i will go to pet supermarket to get it for her she is just such a spoiled little girl!!!she knows she does things and gets away with it mind u i have rottie too!!!but my rottie just ignores her, they will play togetherand its the cutiest thing that you will ever see!! but tinkerbell is just a handful everyone spoiles her but she is wonderful to have around and once i get her trained hopefully very soon!!!!!!i would love to get another little girl, my husband is not to happy about my ideas u know but anyway i want another one i just love them to pieces

Actually, puppies are less likely to potty in a place where they eat.

What I think you mean is that you're concerned that giving him food will increase his need to eliminate. That's a possibility. It's a matter of how long you're expecting him to stay in his crate. Cathy was looking for a way of keeping him quiet just during mealtimes. No, it shouldn't make him more likely to mess in his crate during that short period of time.

I know many people who give their dogs kongs while crating them for long periods of time and it's not an issue. You could try it and see.

There is a kong website with lots of ideas on stuffing them. I just use canned dog food and freeze it. Joey thinks it's heaven on earth!

If you give it to her BEFORE she starts acting up, you're not spoiling her. You're using "management" to prevent a problem before it happens! Spoiling her is giving in to her demands (ie rescuing her from the crate and giving her people food).

I had the same terrifying problem with Pippa running out the door when she was little and we did the same thing by putting up a baby gate. Sometimes someone would forget and she would bolt. I know lots of people have said obedience training, but that really is what made that behavior lessen. If you can't go to a class, get a book to learn how to teach basic obedience skills. Because even though Pippa isn't always very obedient...she knows the commands "stay" and "come", and if she gets out the door, I say, "Stay" and she hunkers down where she's at until I come and get her. She's not that good at "come" but we are still working on it. She's a little stubborn (I know none of you know what I mean by that!!! hehe)

we would like to try it- we're just trying to find a food that Cody would be willing to fight for! we've been testing him by giving him little licks of peanut butter and such but he just turns his nose up. Later we realized he wasn't feeling well though so now that he's actually eating again we'll have to try some more foods- it'd be a shame to pack a kong and for him to just ignore it! (though I'm sure the ants would love it)

We're just looking for a way to occupy him during meals too, but sometimes that means eating out which can extend to two hours ... or church which has us away for 3 hours
