Okay...my brother-in-law is an investigator with the county sheriffs department here in Illinois, should I call him and ask for proper procedure, advise...who to call? I really do not think we should take this lightly, we need to follow the rules.

I think you should make the call but as you know the laws vary from State to State but he might think of something that we haven't. Maybe he can call in a favor and call the pd in her town and speak to one of the officers and ask for his help. They do that all the time.

You all need to know, if we blow it, Zeke is gone, we can not accuse anyone of anything, they could have found Zeke going down the street, he had no tags.

Maureen does not think Zeke was in the house where she went knocking on the door, or Zeke would have barked. Their were several families living in that house. These people have a lot of relatives, that they could pass Zeke on to if they are approached. Do you all really think they would tell the truth, the son already lied, they could be moving him as we speak.

This is very time sensitive, if they get wind that we are on their case, then they can disappear very fast and we have lost Zeke. I am sitting on pin and needles. We need professional help, this is now or never, the more time that lapses, the less chance we have of finding Zeke. All we have is a childs say so. For me that is enough to go on, but is it enough for the police? We don't know for sure if the dog is in the man's house and was wrapped in a blanket to keep quiet, or if there is a grandmother. Maureen is hopeful that the reward will give them a reason to call and give her Zeke. I am so afraid they will move with Zeke as not to be caught if they are that attached after having him for a whole month. I don't know what to do. If he was at the house of the child, I would call the police right away. If he is at the grandmothers, and she is warned, she could pass him to another relitave or friend to watch him untill she can figure out where to move with him. This is scaring the pants right off me. We are soooooo darn close, so close. We have to get the puppy back, we can not afford another mess up. I am praying as hard as I have ever prayed. We are between a rock and a hard spot!!!!!

Zeke is microchipped, so if you call, tell him that. Also, even if Maureen just grabs him, he is her dog and she can prove it with the chip. What could happen?

Kathy that would be great, we do have to follow the law, and we need to have the law on our side. If we wait to long we could lose Zeke again.

Please call your brother-in-law, and advise us how to go about handling this case, maybe he could call an investigator in Modesto and they can figure out what to do. The more time that goes by the worse off we are. I fill we should be right on top of this. NOW!!!!!!

Okay, I am back and just catching up. Maureen if you have the address and give it to Natalie, there is a chance if he is listed, that the name will show. But if he is renting, it could be the title owner's name that will be given. However, there is another way to definitely get his name, but you will have to wait until tomorrow.

You go back to his house in the early afternoon, after the MAIL is delivered. Look in the mailbox that corresponds to his street number, His name will apear on any envelope in there. Then, if the Grandmother is HIS mom. she will have the SAME last name and tracking her will be a whole lot easier. You follow my drift? You can then do a 411 of that last name..... I'll just bet she lives really close buy.

HOPEFULLY he's not renting.. she hasn't posted in a while, so i'm hoping somethings happening

Thank you, we all have a reason to be very nervous, this could work out or backfire on us. We have not got the time to waste, we need to get on top of this right now. We need the police to question that boy, and go to the grandmothers before she has time to leave the country with ZEKE. I am just praying they are trying to figure out how to give Zeke back and collect the reward. They would look very suspicious if they gave him back right after getting the flyer. Yet if we wait, they could think we already know something as we went to their house with the flyer. I am sitting on pins and needles. My heart is racing, and I am scared to death we may mess up some how and not get him. I just have to stay very focused and positive, so we don't mess this up and miss the chance to bring Zeke home.

If it is an "iffy" neighborhood, with more than one family living in the house, guaranteed it is rented.

Okay, I just did a test on the "reverse Number lookup". There is an option to search for numbers by typing in the address. I typed in my in law's address, without entering their tel number or name. What popped up next was a page showing not only their telephone number, but the name the number was registered to - my Father-in-law's. We could do both - the mail box check AND this website - and see if the names correspond.

I will donate another gift for the detective...I don't think we should do this without law enforcement. I am afraid for Zeke. They (the law) need to move quickly...we can't just sit around staking out this man's house.

Taking that route will just upset her brother in law. You catch more flies with honey. I know that the first officer did not help her, I was not there and cannot say why he lied. I do know that they are people too and have their faults as we do. I have worked at the police department in my town for 26 years and just like everyone else they are human and make mistakes. I just don't think alienating the police is going to get them to help more. That is just my opinion.

if i'm not mistaken, it's illegal to mess with someone's mail or mailbox. you can get into very very big trouble for that. i think big fines and jail time would be involved.
i know that people are anxious to get that information (as am i, i keep refreshing the page every minute) but you don't want to get yourself in trouble. zeke would miss maureen if he came home and she were in jail! :eek: :thumbdown :eek:

i hope watching the house works well. any news on the police having been contacted? it might be a matter of getting the right officer to help out. or perhaps someone has called animal control?

I just want to add one other thought. Maureen if you go back to that house.... you HAVE to make it VERY clear to them that if Zeke is returned, there will be NO police action. If they are illegals. fear of legal repercussions could make them do something drastic. You want them to feel totally SAFE. Do NOT threaten them in any way.

You could even offer to "buy" their Tahoe, if you could just "see" him, because the little boy said he looks like Zeke. You could even use this as an excuse to return to the house without making them nervous. Just smile til your face cracks, but do nothing to make them nervous. Tell them you are so hearbroken over Zeke, you would boy their Tahoe without asking ANY questions.
