The police will not consider a missing dog an emergency in the great scheme of things - sorry, but that is the basic reality of crime and resources for crime these days. An emergency usually involves the risk of life or limb of a person or a major dangerous felony underway.

Money isn't an issue for me. I don't know if it would help or not. Depends on the cops and the way the local agency is run.

Galatea, will you be able to be on line tomorrow, we all have so many questions, and we may need a lawyer to help us talk the police into realizing how important it is that we have a warrant when we arrive at the house or houses in this case. We are so close to finding Zeke, and we want to do everything by the book, and of course we do not know the law like you do, and it seems if we have you to consel us on how to do this from start to finish it would be most helpful.

I am in court tommorrow and will be in Sacramento on Friday. I am happy to help where I can, but please understand that if you get the police involved they will control how it proceeds. I am happy to talk to the police if the officer wants to talk to me.

Most people get scared when the police come and most agree to let them look or answer questions. So who knows what will happen here.

I am not sure that there is enough legally to get a warrant now. If it were me, I'd probably have someone quietly stake out the house, get some pictures, take the pictures to the cops with my positive ID that the dog is Zeke. That is much stronger legally than what you have now.

I think you could help us do everything in the right order, so we don't blow anything , and to make sure everything is done right to please the judge and see the importance of Maureen going along to ID ZEKE, I think they would listen to you more as you are a profecional, and Maureen is just a young lady stressed out of her mind over the loss of her dog. I think you could impress on him how important it is to get this dog back to his rightful owners, as he is responsibe for keeping Maureen calm and happy so she does not relapse, and have problems with her Chrons disease. I know it would make us feel like we would have a much better chance of getting Zeke with you than without you.

Also this is a felony, Zeke was over 1300.00, and Maureen needs him for health reasons.

We would also be very glad to pay you for your time. You have already been soooooooo much help, I just feel deep down in my heart we would have a much better chance of getting Zeke with your consel.

It is getting so late, and I don't know how much since I am making, I just know I feel so much more reassured with you in our corner, to make sure we stay focused, and do everything in the right order. Time is so important, if we blow anything we have lost Zeke maybe forever.

I am sure everyone on this forum feels the same way I do. We are so in it 24/7 that we go back and forth and get so confused. We need someone to take over and get this search warrant, and the information we need to get the address of the grandmother. And to really take us down the steps we need to take in the order we need to take them. I think if you could talk to the police they woud know how urgent it is that we move on this asap, before they move Zeke and we never find him.

A private lawyer can't get a search warrant. Only the police can, so they really have the control here. That is the bottom line. I can talk to the police if they contact me and feel them out and communicate with them in legal language they can understand, but I can't make them do anything.

As to getting the address and pictures of the dog, if it were me, I'd put a PI on it, then go to the police. I also wouldn't just get anyone who has a PI license either.

I don't know PI's in Modesto, but I have two PI's here in Fresno that I would trust not to blow it, but they aren't cheap. The reason I would start with a PI is because this is not likely going to be a priority for the police to handle in a way that makes it impossible for the potential thieves to get away with the dog. This is likely to be true of any police agency in the country of a town the size of Modesto. Given the way the police have already handled things earlier, I can tell that they don't care much about this case. You are going to have to do their heavy footwork for them and present them with everything they need IMO.

I don't think 90 minutes is too far for a PI to travel, and I don't think it would require a great deal of time. We have a summary of the facts, and can give them to you and to the PI that you think would be the best for this case. I know this is the support that we all have been looking for. I can not thank you enough for all your great advise, and willingness to help us out. Just saying the PI could handle it in a way that it makes it ipossible for the potential thieves to get away, gives me more hope than we have ever had!!!! He will be worth whatever he charges, I know we all want to contribute to this cause, please find out what he needs for a retainer, and how many days he thinks it will take to get on top of this case after he has read our summary's.

It isn't cheap.

$65-$90 per hour (that includes travel time) plus mileage and expenses.

At this point, I don't think we have a choice. We just have to start asking for support from everyone on this forum, and so many want to give gifts, and now would be the time.

I also don't think it will take him that long to wrap up this case. I am so hopeful!!!!

I have notice that it seems that you all are kinda jumping the gun on a lot of things. . especially on this guy and the possibility of him having Zeke. Without proof of him having the dog, like a photo or even a video tape of it, you cant prove anything and you don't have the right to continually harass someone.

You have to remember that this is a dog and just a dog to many people including the police. no matter what you feel Zeke is just a dog to others, therefore beside the assistance your getting here you are all alone.

Please calm down, and stop jumping the gun. I would have never gone to that mans home for one. I would have kept a close watch over his home and made my move when I saw a Yorkie with my own eyes. Like i said the man said he saw the Zeke flyers. If he has Zeke now, he never intended to give him back in the first place. Somehow last night i just prayed that God would give Maureen a Break and deliver Zeke into her hands somehow, but it didn't happen.

What i suggest you do for now is keep on talking to the man who gave the tip and simply lay low and survey the home. and the area. Get up some of your friends that are willing to help and set up times to walk through that area during different times during the day. two or three people will do so it just looked like ur out excersizing. Make sure you do a shift on the weekend two, You can also narrow down key times by asking the tipster what time of day he sited the yorkie.

I just would really hate to see you all lose a chance to get zeke back if this is him because you put of flyers and scared the man into hiding the dog, or if you go harassing the man and he goes and hides the dog.

You are not going to get a search warrant for that mans home by any means, cause its a Dog to them and you are not paris hilton, you know what i mean?

Calm down breath and really think through your steps.

I'm sooooo confused lol I understand the whole search warrant thing. Just the dad story... I thought that an old man said he was seen there (Zeke) so Maureen went to that house then the lil boy said that's tahoe...and the dad said his grandma has one of those. I never got the part that his story changed If I didn't have 4 kids ages 7 and under I'd come be your personal PI, Maureen or their personal stalker whichever you want to call it lol
