| Got my yorkie on Saturday... but I am overwhelmed with the training process, please help. Lola is 6 months old and she is adorable. She follows me around and has really become attached to me in only 3 days. The problem is that she refuses to use the pee pads and instead relieves herself on the floor. She refuses to sleep in the guest bedroom and cries all night if I leave her there. I feel bad to hear her crying plus I don't want my neighbors complaining so I bring her in my bedroom to sleep near my bed. She wakes up around 5:30 am and cries and cries until I get up and play with her. The part that bothers me the most is the potty issues since I am a cleaning freak. I knew that this was going to be hard but I am so overwhelmed and I don't know what to do. Please give me any advise. thanks, AP |

| Just hang in there. It has only been 3 days and she has not had time to adjust to training yet. Make sure to take her to the pee pad after she eats and whe she wakes up and don't let her off until she goes. It is going to take some patience and time. Put her in the kennel when you can't watch her so she don't go in the floor. She is probably waking up at 5:30 to go potty. When Hannah was a baby I would let her out to potty and then take her back to bed with me. She would lay there and sleep with me until I got ready to get up. It does take time for you both to adjust. I think that everyone goes through what you are going through in the begining. I would suggest to you to take her outside to potty and try not to use pee pads if you are a clean freak, I wish that is what I had done. |

| Welcome to YT! You can do a search on YT for potty training, and can read previous post on how to do it. Very informative stuff on here! Hope this helps, and good luck with your new little one! |

| First I would like to say Welcome to YT!!! You have joined a fantastic site. Try not to be overwhelmed. It has only been three days. If you can try to train her outside I think that would be best. You may want to invest in a crate, that might help with her training. Just try and be consistent and hopefully it will pay off. Good luck to you! |

| Hi Lalola! I got my baby on Saturday also... It is a bit overwhelming at first, but if you're prepared for it, it's a little easier. do you have a play area set up for her? You should look into it. I have a little "room" for my Winston, complete with a crate, a litter box with his pee pads in it, a bed, and his food/ water. He doesn't love being in there yet, but he's ok there when we leave the house for a bit. He just sleeps or play with his toys. You may want to look into getting the pee pad spray also. Winston has already been using his pad's because of that. and its great to have his own little play area for the times when I'm showering, etc. or cannot watch him! Puppies take work, knowledge and preparation !! There's tons of useful info on here so just keep reading around and keep up the training and she'll get the hang of it eventually !! |

YT Addict | Welcome to YT!! We have all been there! After she eats put her on the pee pad until she does her business and don't let her off until then! It was the only thing that worked for Bella. It also helps to have to pee pad in a litter pan. I don't use litter at all, I just put a pad in the pan and durring training kept her in there until she was done. Be patient and remember they are just as needy as real babies. Enjoy her! BTW can't wait to see pics! |

| Thank you you all for your kind words I feel better after reading some of your comments. I will take your advise and take a few days off from work to stay home with Lola and work on the training. |

| Gizmo still hasn't adjusted to the pee pads. He was newspaper trained by his breeder....so we put down newspapers and he does just fine! If you haven't tried that, it might work. You might contact the breeder or whoever you adopted her from and find out if it was the same system you are using.

| Yeah, three days is not long enough for your pup to adjust. As for the crying in the kennel, the biggest thing you need to remember is that you MUST ignore him until he is quiet for at least a full minute (as he gets older, you should work up to a 5 or 10-minute rule). He's in a new house and all these new people. He's probably scared to death that every time you walk out of that room he's being abandoned. You might want to keep the kennel in your bedroom for a week or two. When he cries you can stick your fingers in the kennel to calm him, but don't do this excessively. Never open the kennel when he's barking or crying, as this will teach him that making noise gets him freedom. Good luck with the new pup! The first month is the hardest, from my experience. |
