| Bathroom Weirdness My little girl Jeanie is a funny little girl when it comes to going potty. She will only go in her outside pen She won't go on a walk, ever. We went away for a weekend, and she didn't go #2 the whole time. She waited to come home to go in her pen. She wouldn't do #1 either on a walk, she waited to be in the house of my parents, and do it on the floor when the other dog got her excited.....and then on the bed!!!! I couldn't believe it, she has never done that. Anyway, it makes travel with her a little bit annoying, since you can't make pit stops and think she will tinkle. She just doesn't. At home, she is great, no mistakes for a long time, always goes in the pen. As soon as I put her in that pen, she pees, every time............ Anyone else have a similar frustration? Any ideas how to correct this? I have tried bringing pee pads and putting them down in the yard where I am, that doesn't work. Oh yes, because she doesn't go if you are there, you have to walk away. Thus the reason we need the penned enclosure. So short of bringing that portable pen with us EVERYWHERE, I'm sort of at a loss. Or never take her away from home.......... I WUV my WITTLE finicky Girl!!! |

| Although I can't offer any advice, I can relate to your frustration. I had a husky, Ruby, who absolutely refused to poop while on a leash. She was good about going in the backyard (and would tell us when she had to go out) so long as a leash wasn't attached. Of course, they say that dogs are very superstitious creatures. For many dogs, if something painful or scarey happens while they are doing something, they are almost afraid forever of doing what they were doing at the time. In this case, perhaps our dogs stepped on a thorn while pooping or an ambulance suddenly roared by with sirens blasting. Thus, pooping on a leash MUST mean that scary/painful thing will happen again when pooping on a leash. Sorry I can't help, but I do understand.

| She probably doesn't potty on the bad when you're away, because she doesn't do it at home... It might seem like a step back for you, but maybe you could train her to potty on the pad at home sometimes (or all the time) so its a little more familiar when you travel with her.

| Hi, She does potty on a pad, in the pen. That's why I thought she would adjust. But doesn't seem to get it without the pen surrounding her...???? |

| Maybe try making the pen smaller and smaller until you can get her to potty in a collapsable wire crate that you can take with you?

| I see that a lot with my little one. She used to be on the and I didn't know what to do So I started researching. Through my research it states EXERCISE it is crucial to teach them to go outside and anywhere when you are away from home. You should walk your pup fro at least 25 minutes yep 25 minutes this will help them loosen up anything that they have in there The key is exercise many studies show that dogs small and large breeds aren't exercised enough which makes them so excited and energetic and makes them go potty when they get back inside. Hope this helps |

| Well, you could try taking a slightly used pee pad with you when you travel. Put it in a bathroom and maybe she will get the idea. As far as the privacy thing goes, that is a real issue, something that should have been addressed on day one. For that, I think you may need the individual assistance of a trainer or animal behaviorist to get her to go in "public". Like others have said, maybe you should start over with potty training and try to get her to go outside. Take her to a park where lots of dogs visit. She just might get the idea.
