Thanks for the post I never thought about this before. Luckily I use my cell number on the boys tags.

I use my cell phone number on Izzy's tag too. The address is way too much info. Thanks for posting this. I am always nervous about someone trying to steal him. My advice is to ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings NO MATTER where you are!

I thought I'd post that here so everyone knows to be careful. Also, be careful when you post pics because the police also told her that people post pictures of their dogs online and the tag shows. All anyone has to do is enlarge the picture to get the address.

It's sad that there are people out there like that, but I was glad to hear that the yorkie was returned safely!

Thankyou for sharing this info. When I got Phoebe I could not wait to got her spay, because I had this nightmare that she got lost or stolen and someone breed her to death , so glad that they found the dog

As someone who would have loved to have had some of that information while trying to reunite a wayward Yorkie with his humans a few weeks ago, these are the kinds of reports that unfortunately will discourage people from putting tags on their dogs.

Definitely at least include a name and phone number!

I was lucky because I was actively looking for the little guy's owners and found them within a few hours. I know a lot of times you hear about dogs being returned day or weeks later, if at all.

I don't mean to discourage anyone from putting dog tags on, I just thought people should know to be more careful about how much info to put on them. I know that I will be getting a new tag for Jake with just my cell phone number on it, rather than our whole address and phone number. I thought more info was better in case he ever gets lost , but unfortunately, there are people out there that we can't trust.

That's awful, i'm glad she got her dog back.

I don't use a tag that someone can read at a glance. Instead I use those little brass barrel tags that are quite tricky to unscrew, with the little slip of paper inside on which you write your contact details. It not only means someone has to take time to unscrew, but if you're away from home with your dog you can put details of where you are staying on another bit of paper.

I also don't put the dogs' names, just my name & cell phone number. That way it's harder for them to get the dogs trust by knowing their name.

When Jack was little we traveled to our boat every weekend in the summer. I was working for the County then & had our cel phone # & the number for our Animal Control with his tag# on his id tag. A couple of years later when we moved to our vacation resort town it was scarry how many pets would turn up at the local shelter without id. Most of them were from vacationing folks from out of state. Local law enforcement & the radio station would aid in locating the families. (I just love small towns)

This was a good post ....I can't believe what the world has come to with stealing peoples PETS but it's a fact of life now - When we're out in public we have to watch out for everything because the world is full of low lifes that will do anything for a quick buck.....I would have never thought about that...so thank you.

That is so scary. I didn't think about that happening when I got tags made, maybe I should have new ones made with address on them. What does everyone thinK?

I only have Dior and Diesel names and phone # on there tags. Its crazy to see how low people will go to do something like that.
