| She is threatening to tell the Landlord!!! Help!!! Dear All, I really don't know what to do now. My neighbor is complaining that Toto is barking to much and that my brother and I are making to much noise. And that my mother has guests over that are making to much noise. & that she is going to tell the landlord. At first she was our friendly neighbor that would come over and chat for a while completely friendly and she has a son thats 17 yrs old like my brother. And there friends but ever since i threw my mom a surprise party she has been acting different. She wrote a 3 page letter and put it our door early in the morining & then made a copy & put it on my stepdad's car. She said that if we don't stop making so much noise she is going to tell the landlord. First of all we have living in these duplexes for 9 yrs. she has only lived here for almose a year. My brother and i do not make noise because were hardly there. And about my mom having guest over she's complaining about my family coming over this weekend. Which is rare if they come. I'm so upset. She said that her husband works different schedules and cannot sleep. She practically wants us to accomdate his needs. And then she has the nerve to put at the end of the letter i hope we can still be friends. If she tells the landlord she will probably get us evicted my family & another family. Or i will have to get rid of Toto because we can't have pets. But Toto hasn't been barking for awhile & if he does he is quieted pretty fast. Please i need advice. I cannot get rid of Toto.

| Sounds like she has a bee in her bonnet because she didn't get invited to the party. May be your mom should tell her you all aren't making excessive noise and sorry if you normal daily living is to loud for her. As for telling the landlord, tell her to do what she has to do. If you call her bluff she will probably back off. Don't be rude just be firm and sincere.

| I think after 9 years your family should have some pull with the landlord...maybe try to get to him before she does and explain how nasty she is being (minus the point about the dog)..then maybe you could get the service dog certificate (I heard about it here somewhere think socalnewyorker has info...sorry if I am wrong)..but anyways that will make them have to allow him to live you if he performs some kind of duty that helps you or your mother... ( bad headaches?, bad back..can reach and get things on the floor for you etc..)....I wish you the best of luck...any chance of getting a lease???? it could help you |

| The thing is she was invited to the party. Actually all the neighbors were. My family gets along w/all the neighbors. I just don't know why all of a sudden she changed. She's the kind of person that exagerates. And she probably will call the landlord. But whats going to end up happening is she is going to have 2 families evicted. My family and the neighbors that live in front of her. Because they to have a dog. They have been living here as long as i have. My mother wants to confront her about it tonight but i doubt she'll open the door or answer the phone. Shes kinda of weird. She said the last time that the FBI is watching her & that they tapped her phone line. And that the landlord likes her because he has sent her flowers and a gift from victoria secret. So she kinda of strange. I think its rude and it offended me what she has said. because their not true.

| Have your mom find out what the tennant laws are in your state. In New York, even if you are in a no pet building, if you have your pet for a certain amount of time and no one notices, you can keep it no matter what the landlord says. A landlord can't just evict someone for no reason. You have a lease, correct? a little noise or a party every now and then are not grounds for an eviction. My advice is to find out your rights and get all your ducks in a row and DO NOT discuss this with anyone in your building. The less you say, the saner you seem. Let your neighbor make a stink and everyone will see how unreasonable she is being. Good Luck. |

| that really sucks.. i feel the same way about duplexes as i do apartments...if your going to live in them you have to realize it's not always going to be quiet.. i mean come on...if you want peace and quiet i think you should buy/rent a house...

| You can probably find info on tenancy laws in either your state or city websites, usually under a "Housing" agency link. Or you can Google it for your state and see what comes up. I think you'll be able to find something helfpul to you. |

| I was a Landlord and I got the Fl. landlord/ tenant laws from the clerk of the courts office. Any sensable landlord will look at your past history and go in your favor. A good paying tenant that does not trash your place is hard to find. I agree that you should play it nice with the neighbor. If you don't rise to her threats she may get tired and start to pick on someone else. Some people aren't happy unless they are upset about something. |

| Yeah i looked at that website but where do i go from there? AND to REDFROG we have been living there for 9 years the landlord has never had a problem with us, but from the way she talks about him it seems as though he likes her. and if i was reading right its says that he can evict us if its says no pets in our contract. But Chewysmom said if you have a pet in a no pet building and no one notices for a while you are allowed to keep him. Is this true. Besides what damage is a little yorkie going to do. Its not like he goes poop outside he pottys in the house only.

| AWWWWW, Sweetie. I am so sorry to hear that you and your family are having such a problem. I agree with the post that I would get to the landlord or super before she does. Write the circumstances and give them to the landlord and keep copies. You have to document your actions and hers. Is it possible that she has a legitimate complaint about the noise. Pay attention to the things she has complained about and document that they are not true. Remember, you can never please all the people all the time. Maybe more of your neighbors have complaints about her and it can be a trade-off... |
