| ![]() Okay, hello again all. First off, I want to tell you that I don't post much because I am shy on this forum--big mouth at home, scared to embarrass myself on a forum for some reason - although none of you would ever know me on the street - (may someday be able to recognize Brookie though ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() Yorkies are one of the most popular breeds right now and it's a simple fact of supply and demand. People want them, the breeders know it and they know they'll pay so the price goes up. If Yorkies ever drop in popularity so will their price. |

I agree completely. I also think Yorkies soared in popularity when people started deliberately breeding them to get smaller and smaller. Who wouldn't want a tiny little dog (not puppy) that would fit into your hand? It wasn't until I joined this forum that I even knew there were 15 lb. Yorkies out there. I thought all Yorkies were tiny (7 lbs. and under).

| ![]() Well our yorkie mix was 100 bucks..family friend..eventually we will buy a high quality AKC yorkie..but I would like to have a skin baby first..LOL! I just thought it was interesting going through the local classifieds and seeing that for example AKC beagles priced at 175, and yorkies priced at 1000, and even so called "hybrids" priced at 500-800 bucks..LOL! I just think it is interesting the vast price differences. When we buy a bigger place..I have one semester of college left to graduate..then we are out of here ![]()

| ![]() Part of the cost must be due to the size of the litters. A lab or shepard can easily have 6, 7 or more puppies in a litter. When I was looking for my guys, the largest litter I came across was 4. I don't know about other toy breeds. Are they generally as expensive as Yorkies? One of the main factors I suppose, at least here in California, is market price. And the fact that the breeders here all seem to know each other, at least the ones who show a lot do, so they know what their fellow breeders are charging for puppies. Frankly, I was willing to pay the price for a bit more assurance -- well as much as it is possible to have with any living creature --- that I would get healthy puppies. |

| ![]() The different price ranges can be contributed to a number of things: how small/big the puppy will be at adult age; any championship bloodlines; show-quality or pet-quality; supply and demand; and of course your location. Another important reason some prices may be high is because as a breeder you want to make sure that the potential buyer is truly interested in caring for the pup and not just wanting to buy an "accessory"...something they can dress up, carry around, because it's the "in thing". I sell my babies for $650 each and all have been under 4lbs at adult age. However I am very picky as to who I let buy my babies, I know where every single one is and still keep in contact with all owners, we even dog sit for some, they will come and stay the weekend with me...we even have play dates. I have never had to advertise to sell, and if I did I probably would stop breeding...my babies are more family members than anything else, which is why I only breed them once a year. My babies are my life! |
