| My neighbors across the street had the same thing happen. Whenever there outside they let their maggie run. Thinking she won't take off. She sees me and darts across the street. One of these times a car might be coming. I never let mine out without being on a leash. They are so fast, & it only takes a second for them to take off. After that you'd be saying, if only I did this or if I would have had them on a leash. It's not worth taking chances.

that can not be said enough!! romeo likes to run across the yard at anyone walking down the street!! of course they all laugh and think he is just too cute - as if he could scare anybody! but it is what could happen if he went too far one day that scares me so when we are outside i pick him up if i see someone walking. i will be so glad when the weather warms up later this week so we can start sitting out back when he needs to go out then i will not have to worry.

| Same as everyone already said..must be in fenced in yard or on a leash. Reminds me of a time I was VERY careless, or rather too trusting. I used to live on a busy road and even though my yard was almost 1acre that road was right out front and my yard was not fenced. WE were having a 4th of July gathering and were outside at the bonfire, it was dark and I had the dogs out. Usually they stick right by everyone. All of a sudden I heard a bunch of car horns and I turned to look and there were my two Yorkies trucking down the street (IN THE STREET) with a line of cars behind them. I freaked out and thanked God that the car saw my little guys. I ran and got them and told that first car I am so sorry..they never had run of the yard again until we got it fenced later that year. It only takes a second for them to run off, especially because they have terrier blood, if they see a rabbit, squirrel etc. they are gone! Kathy Thank Goodness your was not hurt. |

| Otis is a runner! If my Otis gets into open air --- he's GONE! I know he loves me to pieces, but when he gets a chance to explore or hunt...forget mom. I've heard it's the terrier nature. Some will stay by your side and never stray from puppy to senior. Some "live to run and hunt". I've had a total of 4 terrifying experiences where someone has held the door open a second too long, or he found a hole in the fence. Luckily, I have always caught him right away. Opening a car door and saying bye-bye has worked in the past. I am a wiz with chicken wire. He goes no-where without a leash or me checking out the fence. Whenever someone knocks on the door, I immediately pick him up so there's no chance he'll get through. It inhibits me from taking him as many places as I'd like to because I"m afraid he will get away. Can someone tell me, will it get better as he gets older? He will be 3 on April 19th. Some pics. 1. I would never run away Mom! 2. Did I just hear the door open? 3. My Shih-poo Oliver, he would never leave me (or his toy bone) 4. Come on, let's go outside!!

| Leash and harness are best! ive seen dogs of all sizes get out of collars to go run off and get something. and normal leashes are best! sometimes flexi locks dont work, sooo its pretty pointless. soo when in a neighborhood, or somewhere with a busy street, use a normal lead. |
