Same as everyone already said..must be in fenced in yard or on a leash. Reminds me of a time I was VERY careless, or rather too trusting. I used to live on a busy road and even though my yard was almost 1acre that road was right out front and my yard was not fenced. WE were having a 4th of July gathering and were outside at the bonfire, it was dark and I had the dogs out. Usually they stick right by everyone. All of a sudden I heard a bunch of car horns and I turned to look and there were my two Yorkies trucking down the street (IN THE STREET) with a line of cars behind them. I freaked out and thanked God that the car saw my little guys. I ran and got them and told that first car I am so sorry..they never had run of the yard again until we got it fenced later that year. It only takes a second for them to run off, especially because they have terrier blood, if they see a rabbit, squirrel etc. they are gone!
