| Working Moms and Dads... What do you do with your baby while you're away at work? Do they have free run of the house as adults? What about puppies? I'm just asking because I'm trying to decide how much freedom I want to give Brooklyn as she gets older. Now she is baby-gated into a tiled area, and she HATES it. She can't play with the cats and it drives her crazy, all she does is yip yip yip like she's being tortured. I'm sure she settles down after I leave, but just out of curiousity... what does everyone else do? Please be sure to state the age of your baby with your answer as that does make a difference!

| I have an adult and a baby. I used to let Maizee have free reign of the room before I got Jerzee, but now they stay in the same cage together while I'm at work. It works out better that way anyway because Maizee never really got the hang of the "not peeing on the floor" game. Plus, before I never knew what surprises I would come home to. |

| My two are 5 months and 4 months and I leave them together in an x-pen in my tiled kitchen. They have a bed, play area, water and pee pad. I give them a special snack before I leave in the morning and again after lunch and they seem fine. I have the feeling they sleep most of the time

| Bunny is three and she has full rein of the house.I usually only work part-time and on those day I am lucky to be able to come home on my breaks. So she is never alone for more than 3-4 hrs.Until she was about 8 months old I took her to doggie daycare. Then for a few months after that I left her in the kitchen with always a radio on and lots of toys and pads in case she had an accident. The lawn man also had a key and he would check on her as well. I think the first months are very important as they seem to need someone around. She adjusted very well. |

| Buddah 8 months Buddah is in my livingroom in a little pen with his bed blanket water food and TOYS. I cannot trust him to be out and about he would terrorize the apartment and I am sure forget he is potty trained. |

| My Tobey is exactly 4 months old today. I got him when he was 7 weeks old and I too, (mostly cuz I am a first time puppy mom) was unsure of the freedom to let him have. He is alone two days a week for 6-7 hours. until about 3 weeks ago he was baby-gated in our kitchen where his potty pad is, had a pillow and towel to lay on, and food and water. He REALLY didn't like it and I felt so bad leaving him. Now he has full reign of the kitchen and living room but we close all the doors to the other rooms. He seems to like that much better because he loves to look out the front window. He still doesn't like us leaving, just this week he's figured out when i am searching for my keys in my purse that means I am almost ready to leave and he starts whining. so sad!! My advice is that you have to trust that your pup is potty trained well enough to go on the pads EVERY time, and that he won't chew up your house. |

| There is almost always someone home here as we work opposite hours. On the rare occassion that no one is home I keep my babies gated into the kitchen area. Peanut escaped once and headed straight for my fiance and my bedroom and pottied on the carpet! I think she is a little jealous and chose our room on purpose. LOL!!

| Simon and Hallie go to daycare twice a week (Tues and Thursday) and on MWF they stay in my bedroom with the door shut, tv on, potty pads and water bowl. I set up a webcam awhile ago to spy on them and they slept all day. |

| Pepper use to stay in the x pen in the kitchen until he was about 4 months, then he had the whole kitchen to himself, then the bedroom as well, now usually he has the run of the apartment - kitchen, bedroom and the other 2 rooms. The bathroom is gated off - he mistakes bathroom rugs for pee pads for some reason -and he does good. He turned 10 months a few days ago

| These all sounds like good suggestions. I guess the only thing I'm worried about is that I leave the house about 7:30 AM and don't get home until about 5:30 and I do this Mon-Fri. I feel bad leaving her alone for so long. Of course my roommate takes a lunch break at 11 AM and lets Brooklyn out with the other dogs for about half an hour, so that helps. Also, my sister sometimes will get home about 4:30 and let her out. I started giving her more access and letting her have my whole room so that she could play with the cats, and she liked that a lot better! But then I realized she was pooping under my bed and I can't have that behavior encouraged. It's like when the room is bigger she forgets where her pee pad is (she uses it every time when she's in the smaller area by herself). I like the idea of taking her to day care 2 days a week to break up the lonliness. Maybe I'll try that, just not sure if I can afford it. Thanks guys!

| Codie is almost 3 years old, Tia is almost 2 years old and Cali is almost 1 year old. They all have free run of my kitchen, dining room and hallway (it's all tile). They are fully potty trained and well behaved. I just don't feel like they "need" access to the bedroom, bathroom and living room -- so I keep all those doors closed. They have PLENTY of space to run and play all day, even though they pretty much just sleep!

| As I was training them, I just gradually increased the area where they had access. But I would never allow them access to a carpeted floor until they were completely and absolutely housebroken unless I was home. Otherwise, you'll be sorry. By the time they are a year old mine have had access to the entire home. Of course, it depends on the individual yorkie when they are housebroken.
