I believe what yorkierose meant was that only gaining 1 lb. after 8 weeks is not average.And as everyone said you can only guess. My Katie, Max and Toby ended up being pretty close to what the weight chart estimated from their 12 week weight. Most people figure doubling their 12 week weight but as everyone has said, that is just an estimate. All dogs are different. My Katie is heavier than Max but to look at them Max looks bigger. He is a little leggier and has more hair. Katie's brother Toby more than doubled his weight. You must also remember that weight is not everything, some dogs can gain weight and get a bit pudgy......doesn't mean they are out of standard, just fat!

As stated in the standard: Must not exceed seven pounds....that's still a small dog....nothing in the standard states 4-7 pounds.....

Who is able to say what a yorkie will be at an adult stage?? I can't and I won't even try sometimes. I have this baby boy who was 2lbs 13 oz at 8 weeks, he is now almost 11 weeks and I weighed him yesterday and he is 2lbs 15 oz. So according to the weight charts he should have been around 8 -9 lbs as an adult and now since he hasn't put on much more weight he will be around 7lbs.. ?? Go figure??

I was more concerned about the 3" high (tall) that is tiny.. is this possible?? Do you realize a dollar bill is 2 1/2 inches tall.. Is it possible that a 8 week old baby is only a 1/2 inch taller then a bill???

Depends on the line.... No hard statistics.

I think the rule is you doube their weight at 12 weeks or triple it at 8 weeks. So that would make an 8 week old 2 pound pup about 6 pounds full grown. That is according to my vet and all of the charts I have looked up

After reading these threads, I have to think that it is just too hard to tell. My Timmy was 1 3/4 pounds at 9 weeks and he is 3 1/4 lbs. at a year!!!

i agree! you just have to wait and see but i do trust my breeder and seeing the mom and dad was enough for me.

I know my baby isn't purebred (she's a Yorktese/Morkie or whatever!) but just to show you how they can grow so differently:
At 8 weeks, Ceiba was 2lbs and her brother, Ace was 2.2lbs. (He's always been an ounce or 2 heavier).
At 12 wks, she weighed in at 2.11lbs and he at 3.9lbs. They were both eating the same (crappy!) food. (I was scared to change her food so quickly). Not sure why the huge difference in weight!
So I guess that even in littermates, the growth rates can vary quite a bit! Just my 2 cents

Even the charts are off sometimes, every weigh-in at the vet (about every 2 weeks or so) I moved the 'official' adult weight up and up - just by calculating from his weight as a 9-10 week old pup, he would be around 4 lbs fully grown. He was gaining a full pound each month but is far from fat. I can pick him up with one hand, still - 6 lbs - he's small, just seems 'filled with rocks' LOL

My Ozzie must've started eating golfballs somewhere along the way.
At age 9, he weighs 13.5 pounds!

And he was 3 pounds, 3 ounces at 11 weeks when we brought him home.

I got 2 boys from the same litter. One was 2lbs at 9weeks, and the other was 2.2lbs at 9 weeks. At 15 weeks one was 3.8lbs and the other was 4.4lbs. Now fully grown, the 3.8lb one (dexter) is 5lbs on the dot but my other boy (fletcher) is a whopping 8lbs!!

Lili was 2 lbs at 8 weeks, She will be 1 yr old on the 29th and weighs 6 lbs. She is very healthy, happy and active. What really matters is that she is loved and well cared for. She doesn't know how uch she weighs, In fact she thinks she's a BIG dog!

You guys are making my anna sound real small she is 16 weeks today and last week when i took her to the vet she only weighed 1.9 lbs with her clothes etc on :S
