Who are you to say that my yorkies are not "normal"?? Yorkies grow at different rates. Both my yorkies came from the same parents but different litters. Obviously this is "normal" for their line. They both went through their big growth spurt right at 8 weeks and when we bought them, we thought they were going to be around 5 lbs. But they didn't have another big growth spurt. That doesn't mean that there's something wrong with them or that I'm doing something to them or that they aren't "normal." That's how their genes made them. They are small and they had their growth spurt early. Please don't go around telling people that there is something wrong with my yorkies or that they aren't "normal" just because they grew at different rates than YOUR yorkies.

All yorkies are different. Just go to the photo gallery section to prove that. It is insane to even sit here and discuss what is "normal" and what is "abnormal." When it comes to yorkies, there is hardly a norm.

I believe she was saying, that in your instance of a 2 lb at 8 weeks turning out to be 3 lbs full grown, is not the normal growth rate. There is nothing wrong with your yorkies, they are beautiful..

That growth rate, just dosnt fit the normal rate of growth is all.

Look at my BIG GIRLS... Penny weighed 2.5 lbs at 9 weeks and 8.5 lbs at 20 weeks, go figure she now weighs 10.2 lbs...

I think that sounds a little big. Do you know the weight of the parents? Have you had a chance to see them?

It sounds a little bigger than Ralfie (he was 2 lbs at 10 wks? somewhere around there) but didn't grow much for awhile after, so as everyone else has said, every yorkie is different and look at the parent to estimate the adult weight.

Not to change the subject, but I couldn't help but notice you live in Bethesda!!! I'm from Potomac- across the street from Great Falls Park! Once you get your puppy, I'm thinking YT playdate?!

It's not that they are 'big'. Pepper is on the bigger side for a Yorkie (which I only see when I see pictures of 3-4 lbs ones and how tiny they are!!) - I meant according to the standard which is 4-7 lbs. There is nothing wrong with a Yorkie weighing 5 or 6 lbs, or 8 or 10 - unless you plan on showing of course

. They are all beautiful and cuddly babies.

Thanks for all your great responses! As I never owned a Yorkie before, believe me I treasure all feedback! I thought 2 pounds at 8 weeks was a little bit on the larger side but I really do not mind...My breeder never promised me a teacup or anything...I met the parents of my baby boy before and they seem very little but hey they are Yorkies so regardless they all appear small...As long as my boy is healthy, I really do not mind him being a bit bigger than usual

I was just curious to see what was the 8 week old yorkie weight criteria

One more thing...My breeder told me that when fully grown my puppy will be between 4-10 pounds...Dont you think that is too wide of a range? Am I going crazy? I think I am just so excited that I over analyze things...

I tend to think this is how Chloe is going to mature. She is very fine-boned like your little guy. Like I mentioned before, she was 2lbs at 8 weeks and at 6 months now, she is 4lbs 10 oz. I want her to be 5 1/2-6lbs. She was the largest one in the litter, and I purposely chose that because I knew she was more likely to be closer to the standard. I was so afraid of the health problems that sometimes come with the tinier ones. I know they grow at different rates, but her size now, and fine features...(and she's as tall as she is long) I just don't see her getting over 5 1/2 lbs, but I hope she grows that big.

Sparky weighed 1 lb 6 oz at 6 weeks. 4 weeks later he had gained to 3 lb 5 oz. 4 weeks later he was 5 lb 10 oz. Yesterday (4 weeks later) he had a visit with the vet and he weighed 7 lb 8 oz. So based on the premise that they double the 12 week weight, my little man will be about 10 to 11 lbs. His Mom weighed 7 lbs and his Dad weighed 5 lbs, but it looks like my little "porker" may outdo them. And that's fine with me, because he is such a high quality boy. He has the best personality and is perfect for me and my family. He was the bigger one of the litter, and was picked out by my Pastor's wife. He was a gift from them and my family. He is my first Yorkie, and I'm paranoid about his size as it is (I'm used to 50 - 100 lb dogs). But the next one (and ohhhhh there will DEFINATELY be a next one) I would like it to be smaller.

What she is telling you is she in her round about way, is she can't predict size. Anything can happen.

i agree that anything can happen but i would hope that the person i bought a puppy from would be able to give me a better answer than "between 4-10 pounds"! we met romeo's parents and both are small yorkies - the dad is smaller than the mom! the lady told us that he would get no bigger than 4.5 pounds - just like all of her puppies from their litters. none have weighed more than that.
