Well, I did my homework a little to late. Got her from Nancy Pack of PacksPups in Wood River, NE. Someone did a search on her and her website stated she had 13 diff. breeds. When I questioned the breeder she stated that she had partnered with two others to have that many breeds. I also noticed she is listed on that USDA list of breeders. The pup I got is APR reg. (which I am now understanding is pretty worthless). I got some song and dance about how AKC has become to difficult to work with so a lot of breeders are no longer using them. Also, their fees are so high. But I paid $1,500 for this little girl. Two weeks before X-mas she supposedly weighed just a little over a pound. Two weeks later (a few days after X-mas) I drove and picked her up and took her for her vet check. She (only two wks. later from weighing a lb.) weighed a whopping 2 lbs. The vet said there is no way for a dog that tiny to gain a whole pound in one week. The vet (not my reg. vet) guessed her age to be more in line with 12 wks. based on her teeth. I had posted that here and some responded that their Yorkie's teeth came in slow. The vet didn't say for sure, just told me that had I come in not knowing the age that is what he would have guessed. She has kennel cough, worms, and coccidia. The breeder did recently refund me $250 for her vet bills. When I picked her up I did noticed kennel buildings at the back of her property. My dog was nervous, didn't know how to love, be held, play, etc. She is a fast learner. Loves to sleep in the bed with me. LOL. Sorry about the novel, grab a pop and read away. LOL

She is adorable! Sorry you got scammed though...it definitely sounds like a shady breeder. I'm just curious, why would you want to breed her, knowing she came from a puppy mill? Her hair problems might just be from nutritional issues, but they could also be genetic or related to the health problems she has because of the breeder. And yes, the APR registry is pretty much worthless...which makes it even worse that the breeder charged you that much for her. I'm glad the breeder at least had the decency to refund your vet bills. Did you ever get to see the dog's parents? If so, did they seem healthy?

| Are her legs smooth haired? The hair looks very short. As cute as she is, at this point (and you can't know for sure until a dog is an adult) I would say she does not seem like a likely breeding candidate. For one thing, it is not such a good idea to breed puppymill pups. Since she came to you with all those health problems and a different weight and maybe even age than what the breeder led you to believe.....I would also wonder what else was different. Which dogs were really her parents? Was there any genetic or infectious diseases in the family line? You need to be able to trust a dog's background before breeding. This was about the same case with my late Maggie. We got her from a lady who bought her from what I now know is a small time puppymill. She had significant health problems, grew over standard and did not have the nice silky coat called for by the standard, in fact she had a definate wave. I had visions of maybe someday breeding but knew in just a few months, it was not to be with her. We spayed her and loved her. We miss her still. Enjoy your pet Yorkie but I would probably not consider breeding her. It is hard to say that -- because I know how much we love these little ones and it is hard to think that more just like them wouldn't be a good thing. I finally have two from good breeders and I am very hopeful that they will be breeding caliber -- but if not, I will just spay/neuter and love them to pieces!

If she is not breeding material I would NEVER breed her. I figured you really don't know until they are about 18 mos. anyway. I have an import Germ. Shep. I breed her once a year. I raise the babies in my laundry room, right off of the kitchen (which I have gated off from the living room). I also sell them for top dollar and feel great that I have raised top notch pups. I wanted to do that with a Yorkie or two also. I also have some other dogs but they are spayed/fixed. Just my friends. I still get letters and updates on my Germ. Shep. pups. When I say raised under foot I truly mean it. LOL. They are socialized in the house with other pets, kids, men (my DH and grown son), cats. Plus, their genetic line is the best. I enjoy it, I make a little money when it's all said and done but I love doing it that way. That is my dream, to also do that with Yorkies. I guess I will continue my search for the perfect little female and male. But, I can't give up this little girl. She has already won my heart and I can't send her back to kennel life. She loves the bed too much. LOL

I gave up even thinking about the little boy. When I talked to the lady she kept saying "do you want me to bring him over so you can see him?. I kept saying "please don't do that, all puppies are to cute for me to pass up" LOL. I am already learning that I need to do a ton of homework before selecting another Yorkie. DaisyMae, had to run to Bakers today and seen your job. If I wasn't running so behind was going to pop in just to put a face to an e-mail name. LOL. This snow is the pits. My little girl has went out on the front porch a few times. Stays for a minute or so. But it's her choice. It's when I am letting the other dogs out that she gets caught up in the moment "oh, I want to see what's so exciting out there to". But she starts shivering right away. I am using wee pads right now. Also, I want to keep all of her germs at home. I honestly think she got one of my kittens sick with kennel cough. Going to watch the kitten, but noticed she was coughing this a.m. Still has the coccidia. Has been on Albon since last Friday. Still blood in her stools. I thought it would be getting better by now. Maybe it's time to post on the illness board and see what others say about the length of time to cure it. We will get together though. I also live on acreage so my house is always open for an outing.

Thanks for the well wishes. I swear I am at the vet every week for one of my animals. It's check up/shots time, something not quite right, funny stools, and the list goes on and on. My vet, Dr. Amy Grant, (LOVE HER!!!) always tells me she is going to get me a punch card for her office. She does give me a break though. Santa brought my girls two kittens for x-mas. I noticed a few runny stools in the cat box so Dr. Grant just had me drop off a stool sample (minimal fee) to check it. Avoided office call. I just can't afford to get anyone else's pets sick.
