| Licking His Paw A Lot Our Yorkie is about five years old and at certain times of the day he licks his left pay excessively. Especially at night he does not bite it, he licks and gets his paw wet. I don't know if something is wrong with him and I intend to ask the vet the next time he goes in. He is in very good health and we want to keep him that way. I don't know when he started this because we inherited the dog from my wife's daughter. We take good care of him and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced or knows what causes him to do this? Thanks, Rich email: fzbear@msn.com |

| My dog does that too! I also can't figure out why she does it so I am curious to see what other people have found out. I did ask the vet about it and he said it is like when a baby sucks its thumb--they are looking for comfort. He didn't seem too worried about it. Colleen |

| i'm sure this was a VERY isolated case.. but my friend's dog died from this. he got an infection inbetween the pads of his feet.... he licked and licked.. they didn't see anything so they never brought him in and he died... he was a german shepherd... not sure if that makes a difference... it could also be an obsessive thing... layla gets like that itchying... i try and redirect what she is doing... try searching it on the internet.. let us know what you find out. |

| Hi Rich, welcome to YT!! My yorkie does this and so does my lab. The vet has never expressed any concern about either of them doing it.

| licking Being a vet tech, this is usually a sign of allergies. The vet will probably give him a steroid shot and this will help a lot. Good luck and let us know what the vet says!

| I was told by my vet that sometimes the groomer doesn't always cut the hair properly between the toes. I started grooming between the toes inbetween the groomer & my Misha stopped.
