| newborn baby That's how sleep deprived I feel. Rosie is like having a newborn baby.Without fail she wakes us up two- three times a night. She needs to go potty, she thinks its time to get up at 3am. We are sooooo tired, what is funny is on vacation she never did this at my MIL or my sisters. She did in the motel though. Ayone have any suggestions? Also has anyone ever made the switch successfully from them sleeping with you in bed to the crate? WE NEED SOME REST! |

| When we got Misha, my husband took 4 months off to stay home with me. It was like having a newborn to us. We took turns in the night until she slept through. What a great help he was. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey did the same thing. Getting him back in his carrier each time became harder and harder so he now sleeps with us. I keep a pee pad on bench at foot of bed and he learn to use it immediately. The main thing that helps them sleep is lots of exercise. Play some fetch with him in the evening or go for a walk. Remember, they change so much in a week; it gets better! Even if you switch him back to crate you still have to let him out. Nancy Last edited by Nancy1999; 01-15-2007 at 08:33 AM. |

| Shadow, don't mean to LOL at you! I can only imagine if she's getting you up all the time you are getting no rest. You may have to do a search to find the other topics on crate training. I recall a topic where a Ytr was trying to get their pup outta the bed back to the crate. They were saying the pup whined all night. Well, sometimes we have to let them whine for a few days till they get use to sleeping. I blocked Kodak off to a section of one room and put the crate there. I made it real cute and comfortable with his favorite toys, padding and blanket and pillows. I even hung some cat toys from the crate. I had to remove the bells off the cat toys because he would play in the middle of the night. I put some pads down, and some water and within a few days he was content. Before putting him to his confined area, I played with him before I went to bed to tire him out. A nice walk around the block before bed helped to. Good luck!

| It gets easier if your puppy is fully potty-trained. I used to crate mine right beside my bed so I wake up every time he needs to potty until I trust him going to the litter box himself. He now sleeps in his own bed under my bed on my side. He goes potty on his own and comes back to sleep quietly and wakes us up at about 7am+.

| Thanks for replying. Rosie is a year and a half ,shouldn't she be sleeping through the night though? What is the latest you give yours food or water? Maybe I'm letting her eat and drink to late. I really don't know, she has always went number two about 2-3 am. |

A year and a half should sleep through the night but I don't think they stay still through the night. Mine is 7 months but I am aware that when we sleep, he sometimes doesn't. He'd go play with his chew toy for a bit, sleep a bit, pee and when he sleeps, he moves around sleeping in different spots through the night. Sometimes in his bed, sometimes in his other bed and sometimes on the carpet in front of our room door. I feed him last at 6pm but I do give him some treats throughout the night. I used to hold his water after 8.30pm but I don't do it anymore. I let him drink whenever he wants and pee whenever he wants now.I also realize that if I feed him more vege on a certain day, he will poo earlier at about 7am the next day but if I feed him less vege, he'd poo about 8am+ the next day.

| Oh I forgot..there is a trick that you can try. Mine used to wake up at 3am, 4am..all the odd timing when you are in a deep sleep. What you can do is say she wakes up at 3am every night so you set your alarm clock at 2am when you know she is sleeping and wake her up at 2am, it will mess up the time that she wakes up thinking its 3am. Then after a day or two, you set your alarm clock at 1am and then 12am and gradually the time will move up to before you sleep so the idea is to mess up her waking up time in the middle of the night so the end result is, she won't wake up at all in the middle of the night.Try it. It worked on mine and a friend of mine taught me this. A proffesional trainer taught her the trick. It took just a week for my puppy using this trick. If they do wake up at 3am (not in the crate) and tries to wake you up, ignore them, turn your back on them and monitor their reaction. If they are very persistent, give a stern no and give the instruction "Go Sleep" or something like that. It also helps that you say the same thing before sleeping every night like "good night" "go sleep" or something that you like to use.

| When I got my two girls, (first one, then 3 & 1/2 months later, the other one) I put them in the doggie fence with attached water and crate, then added a couple of toys and chewy's and a wee-wee pad. We never slept with them, so at night they could play, drink and pee when they wanted. Zada turned 2 Dec. 5th and Azrael will be two tomorrow Jan.16th 07. When my husband went to Alaska on business the middle of October for 7 weeks I decided to put the girls in bed with me for company. They did perfectly! I slept with them the entire time my husband was gone and when he got back I didn't have the heart to put them back into the kitchen area at night, so they are still sleeping with us. I love it, and so does he. Their last meal for the day is at 4 oclock and the water stays down till we go to bed anywhere from 9 to 10. They have never bothered us to get up. I think the fact they were trained in their own area for so long has done the trick. |

I take him in my bed to nap when I watch TV but he will never sleep in my bed at night. My Mi-Ki would lick me all night so sleeps in his crate but he's so quiet, very timid. Last edited by prettypuppypink; 01-15-2007 at 09:30 AM. | |

| WOW,some very good advive, thanks! Well for the most part we both like having them sleep with us,not the waking us up often though. I'm going to try the stop feeding her at 4pm and see if that helps. Then she will probably wake us up hungry. Ithink I will also try transitioning(sp) both to sleep in their own beds.Wish me luck. |
