| He keeps shaking??? Lately I've noticed that Ferdinand shivers a lot like he's cold - but he does it when it's perfectly warm. Today it's really bad. Usually I can just feel it but today he's visibly shaking. It's not 100% of the time, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows what might be going on?

| How old is he? It could be low blood sugar. |

| He's almost 8 months old. I was scared it might be low blood sugar, so I gave him some soft treats that I have and cottage cheese and he's fine now. He eats twice a day and has never had a problem with it that I've noticed. Maybe I should be feeding him more? Sometimes he finishes it all, and sometimes he doesn't though. I feed him Azmira which is made by Newmans... it's a holistic and natural food and I feed him 1/4 cup twice a day. Sometimes I put cottage cheese on top. I've just been reading that dogs older than 12 weeks are very unlikely to have a hypoglycemic episode?

| I believe they can be hypoglycemic at any age. Toto was tiny and our vet had us give her a little peasized bit of vet formula NutriCal about 3-4 times a day for her first year. Maybe your little one needs your vet to check him over if this continues. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Sometimes they can shake if they are in pain. However, if he stops shaking when he is fed, my bet is that he is not keeping his blood sugar up enough with what you feeding him. | |

| You might try leaving dry food down at all times so he can eat when he wants. I've always done this and I've never had any blood sugar issues with my boyz. No, they don't over eat...they eat when they're hungry and stop when they're full. I never really agreed with the 'rules' of only feeding a dog one or two times a day...we snack when we're hungry and I would pity my husband if he ever tried to only feed me 2 small meals a day! I do give a small amount of soft food to each of them for breakfast and dinner but the rest of the time they get dry food. I also think a dog can have hypoglycemia at any age. I'm glad he's feeling better now that he's had something to eat...that tells me it was most likely his blood sugar and he needs to eat more throughout the day. |

| Well thanks for everyone's input. Everyone told me to feed him 3 times per day until 4 months, then start to move him to twice a day when I first got him (incliding the breeder). Instead of feeding him 3 times a day I always left food out for him until about 3 months ago (so 5 months of age) because I was unable to come home and feed him at lunch time. I was told it would help with the potty training also because he would be on a schedule. Looks like I need to go back to free feeding.

| Also, someone mentioned size. He's a little over 3lbs. Now that I think about all the specifics I do agree that it was dumb to start feeding him only twice per day

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | GOOD luck !!I hope it is the free feeding will help....i've always free fed my girls - they have something anytime they want it - and yorkies are so busy it just seemed ok & I never worried about them eating too much or too little - Actually they really don't eat much but they eat often - and they get a little chicken every day at dinner time too - Hope he's ok !!! |

| We free feed here also and have never had any problems with hypoglycemia. Mine snack several times a day. They eat more in the mornings when they awake, but come back to their bowels about 5-6 times a day eating tiny bits.

| Well THANK YOU everyone! I was pretty freaked out yesterday - I thought I was doing the right things, but he's my first yorkie. He's being free fed now. I got him a bigger bowl so his whole amount of food for the day can fit. V, I like the chicken also - maybe I'll give him that at dinner also. Do you just boil it?
