Why tiny's over teapots?

I found It to be an interesting thread. I dont know why people got uptight about this thread. Obviously differences exist in our yorkies and why we cant talk about them or why people have a preference for one size over another is sad. Carol I didnt think you were trying to stir anything up by starting the thread either.

To me asking these questions is like asking a pug owner why whould you get a dog with a squished face and sinus problems. EVERY dog and dog owner has preferences. And every dog as problems big or small. Like another poster said .. would you ask a chi owner this question? Would you ask a great dane owner this question?
"What made you get a dog that big... don't they run around your house and break your china?" Don't they slobber all over you messing up your clothes and stuff?"
I know stupid statements indeed but you know what "somebody loves and prefers it! I don't know why someone would want one of those dogs with the dreads or cords because that HAS to take a LOT of time and work, but obviously someone has the time and dedication and LOVE of the breed to do it.

And another question... WHY IS IS OK TO SAY TEAPOT BUT IT IS A MORTAL SIN TO SAY TEACUP??? WHEN DESCRIBING SIZE?

I think there is some serious hating going on here weither or not someone would admit it, otherwise why even bother asking these questions and making these statments about size if you didn't secretly care? Wanting a smaller yorkie is no different then wanting a small Chi, and wanting a larger yorkie is no different then wanting a beagle or some other smiliar size dog. And wanting either one doesn't matter as long as that dog is loved and cared for problems and benefits all rolled into one!

Well for one thing the Admin of this forum has made it against the rules here to advertise teacups for sale or to say you want a teacup to buy. He now deletes those posts

My Kissie is 5 pounds. She seems perfect to me. If her weight would be 3 or 10 pounds, I still should love her the same. All the yorkies are so special, smaller or bigger. It's not the size, it's their personnality and the way they express their unconditionnal love with kisses, their marvelous brown eyes, and all the joy they bring to the family daily life they share as a member more than as a pet.

Well isn't that decrimination for a WORD? So its ok to "describe" a teapot for sale but not "describe" a teacup regarding size. So what's not good for one is not good for the other????

Do you SEE how crazy this sounds???? So if someone had a yorkie for sale it would be ok to say: " TEAPOT YORKIE FOR SALE" but not ok to say "TEACUP YORKIE FOR SALE" ?

I for one just crack up at the thought of the "oh I want a small one so I can take it everywhere" spill everytime. We have a small one (Kasey)...2 lbs, 2 oz and the LAST thing we are going to try to do is take him anywhere. I can't even fathom how to go about doing that in a safe manner...wrap him in bubble wrap? Honestly, he's as healthy as any of the others, but 10x more prone to being injurred by even the smallest bump that wouldn't so much as phase the others. As it is, whenever anyone in the house is doing...well, anything other than sitting, he has to be kept out of the room to keep from getting underfoot...I can't even imagine a good reason to increase the risk of injury to him by carting him around everywhere.

I guess it's just funny to me because I didn't fully understood the things others warn about until we got him and I saw first hand what everyone means. His littermates are now 4-5 pounds, as were his parents, but this little spit hardly grew at all after we got him at 11 weeks.

I think that "teapot" was a term derived here as kind of a counter joke to the 'teacup' term. At least that's what I take it as...

No one said it's a mortal sin & using the word HATE is pretty strong for a yorkie lover site..... but to answer your post....IN MY OPINION - the reason the word teacup gets flack is because it's misleading.

People who don't know better think their IS such a breed as teacup yorkie - and in general - breeders who use the word to sell puppies usually jack up the price.. I've seen many sites that scream teacup who are selling perfectly average yorkies.... OR breeding very tiny females so they can charge big bucks.

How many times has someone posted their Breeder sold them a TEACUP and they ended up with an average size yorkie ???

How many people are now breeding very tiny females and charging outrageous prices ???

That's sad for the little tinies....& yes - We've all and heard about some itty bitty yorkies having some major health issues due to the fact that a breeder intentionally went too small - the word in general isn't offensive - it's how it's used. The word teapot isn't used as a selling tool - so there's no comparasion in the 2 words.

that's only my opinion and I mean nothing by it - just something to think about

Vette, first off I want to say that I admire and respect you and you always have a fair and balanced take of hot topics, that being said "HATING" is a slang term for being jealous or envious.

Everything you said is absolutly true and I agree with you 100% but I still think if is all symantics. And I HAVE seen yorkies being advertised as Teapots. Matter of fact I saw one website with one list for teacup size and one list for teapot size and one list for standard size, I kid you NOT!

But do you see my point about asking someone why they got, like, prefer, wanted, or chose a smaller dog?????????

Yes they are sooooooooo small and can be carried in a carrier or purse, however, they also need extra special care and needs than their bigger brother's and sister's. There have been some heartbreaking stories over the past two weeks regarding these tiny ones and still people want them. Even

I have owned larger breeds in past years including a couple of larger sized Yorkies. Now, due to arthritis winning the war, I can't lift anything more then 5 lbs. My Chin is slightly over 5lbs. but a cobby body, feels heavier. Fortunately, he has sound knees and hips (can be a Chin issue) and can jump and doesn't require carrying. I have a Mi-Ki that's a little over 3 lbs., very fragile, a year old and a tough Yorkie that might top 4 lbs. when full grown, 10 months. I wouldn't care to have anything smaller then 3.8-4 lbs. quite honestly. I don't board my dogs. They have been overnight patients at their vet's due to neutering/dental but there is a vet tech there at night. I have no issues with those that desire smaller Yorkies. It's a personal choice in my opinion. I have owned much larger breeds that have had extreme health issues as well. A larger size dog isn't a guarentee that it will be healthy.

I dont think there is any jealusy or envy here. I think if anybody owners of teapots would have their feelings hurt when soomeone says they wouldnt have one and dont like the looks of them. I wonder what tiny owners would do if soomeone said that. And then to be accused of being envious.

I DO see your point totally - I love reading peoples opinions and we sure have tons of threads about this subject lol - which I think is good because this is how I learned way back when what to look for when buying my girls you have to admit - we have lots of people wondering why their tiny yorkie grew and grew lol - many people spent thousands and end up with a normal sized yorkie so I guess that's why I really don't like the word....but you're right ...in the long run it IS symantics

Edited to add - I've never seen a site selling 'Teapots' ....that's funny !!

I would keep right on loving it but I would never intentionally buy one that was going to huge. When we adopted our younger son, we were asked at the agency if we would take a retarded child. Not knowing they might have one but having been warned that they would ask that. As you probably knoww, my older biological son is severely retarded. so when they asked that, we told them no and explained about our other son. Then they said, well, what if you got one and then found out he had a problem or ended up disabled from an accident? we saif that is totally different. he would alrfeady be our son and we would roll with the punches. A few weeks later, they gave us this beatuiful,two year old boy and told us he MIGHT have problems. Seems the social workers couldn't agree. Some thought it was a cultural thing. Anyway, by the time he was three he was diagnosed with a learning disabily. He is my heart. AND, I have two beautiful grandchildren I never thought I would have. Long answer to your question but I know you get the point.

What is the difference in looks of a bigger or smaller yorkie? except for the fact that they are just that...big or small? And I will ask also....what WOULD you do if your furbaby got over 5 lbs? would you get rid of him/her?
