We went to the breeder looking for a healthy girl. There were 2 girls and one boy. I picked out the girl who was slightly bigger than the other. She snuggled me and to this day is still that way. Well her brother was twice the size of the girls. He was running across the floor with the bristles of the broom. Well, we went back and got him too. Cricket, my girl is 5lb. and Bubba, my boy, is 10 lb. I don't love one more than the other. They play and have a great time. When Cricket was 10 weeks, she was 2.1 lb. now she is 2 years old and is 5 lb. You never know how they will grow, just like children.

If your doctor told you that your child was going to have blonde hair and blue eyes and that is what you really wanted...would you want to put it up for adoption if it came out with brown hair and brown eyes? What if your child was born with a birth defect. would you put it up for adoption because you were hoping for a perfectly healthy baby? I don't think so. If you wanted a yorkie, you should be happy that you have a healthy yorkie that YOU picked out. No one made you buy that puppy...you chose HER. If you don't want her, please find her a new home that will love her. But if you do...then don't you dare come on here and post your concerns when you get another yorkie that is going to way 1 lb more than you were hoping!!! You think your are offended now?? I guarantee you won't be happy at all with the responses then!! I am not bashing you..I just think you are being quite selfish. If you knew what you were looking for, you would have known by the size of her only a week ago that you weren't getting what you thought you wanted. She could not possibly have grown so much in a week that it was so obvious that she would be too big. You should have seen that before you brought her home. I have waited many years for a yorkie and was not the least bit concerned with her size...I wanted a healthy pup. that is all that matters. and it is sad that it is not all that matters to you. You are just asking for trouble.

and please, change your name and your signature because it is not reflective of the true feelings that you obviously have.

I get pretty angry when I read stuff like this. What does a 3 lb yorkie have that a 6 lb doesnt? I dont get this obsession with little tiny 2 and 3 lb dogs. Sure they are cute and precious and you can stick them in your pocket and carry them around. The most beautiful dog I have is a 6 lb male. He is the sweetest thing in the world and I wouldnt trade him for any tiny. I have a son of his that is going to be about the same size and he is gorgeous and havent had a sweeter little baby than this one and I am having a hard time selling him because he is not a "teacup". What ever happened to the other qualities that made the yorkie the beautiful dog they are today? The long flowing coat, nice erect ears, the little "terrier" attitude, the regal look, a loving loyal companion. The only thing people seem to see anymore is the size. Even if they are still in the yorkie standard, if they arent a teacup, then they arent interested. I think it is the breeder who mislead you that you are angry with and that is why you are having trouble bonding with this puppy. I dont blame you if you were mislead but give the pup a chance and love it for what it is not matter if it is 3 lbs or 6. Its a yorkie. Whats not to love?

First of all - I am not directing this post at ANYONE individually, or specifically - I just read a few posts (throughout this entire thread) and once again...had to respond. And hopefully, this will be the LAST one.

I just don't understand why anyone would get ANGRY when reading the post that she made. What is there to be so angry about? The Yorkie that she got, is not the Yorkie that she was looking for - it's as simple as that. I just HONESTLY DO NOT understand what is wrong with that. Why is it that I have NEVER heard of ANYONE getting angry over someone wanting to buy a LARGER Yorkie? Why is it that they ONLY get angry when someone states that they are wanting to buy a SMALLER Yorkie? Should the smaller Yorkies not be loved by people too? Just like the larger ones are? Does this lady NOT have the right to buy what she WANTS? When you go out looking to buy a car, don't you buy the car that you WANT? When we PAY for something, don't we want to PAY for what we WANT? Some people like smaller cars, some people like the larger SUV's - whats the big deal here??? I just don't get it. We have to understand here - people have a little something called "PREFERENCE". Some people want a Maltese - others want a Great Dane - it's all a matter of PREFERENCE.

And I KNOW what alot of your arguments are. It is that the people out there who are INTENTIONALLY looking to buy a smaller Yorkie are keeping the "BAD" breeders in business - pumping out the tiny, so called "teacups". Because if the demand is there - so is the "product", right? RIGHT. This does have some truth to it - but there are STILL "runts" that are going to be born every day - and we have no control over that. So seriously people, what should we do with the little guys that can't help being born small? Do we just turn our heads and walk away because today it is considered "FASHIONABLE" to have a little Yorkie and it just isn't "RIGHT?" Because that isn't the way it SHOULD BE?? There will ALWAYS be tiny babies - and someones got to buy them - so why not let the people that WANT them? And I know that ALOT of you could argue that last statement and question until the COWS come home...BUT - I am just trying to say, without stepping on toes, (which I'm sure I have SO already done - lol) that no matter what, there are ALWAYS going to be people out there who want a SMALL dog (Yorkie) - PERIOD. And NOTHING is going to change that.

AND - just for the record, I personally do not consider a 6 lb Yorkie to be "BIG" by ANY means - but that doesn't mean that everyone is going to feel the same way I do. To some people - WHO WANT A SMALLER YORKIE - that JUST MAY be considered "BIG".

So, alot of the posts here, are basically stating that you should just buy and love a Yorkie because "IT'S A YORKIE" right?? So whats the point in even looking around? Why not just by the first healthy Yorkie you see no matter what it looks like? Why even have a preference of color, size, gender, etc.? I mean a Yorkie IS a Yorkie right?

Just like when people post Yorkies for sale in the for sale section here and they don't post a picture right away. Why do we even ask to SEE a picture in the first place then? A Yorkie is a Yorkie - who cares what it weighs, looks like, or what color it is? Right? It doesn't matter...IT'S A YORKIE!!!! When we go to our breeders homes and there are several little Yorkie babies running around - HEY - they all look healthy - why not just tell the breeder to hand ya which ever one she feels like handing ya? A YORKIE IS A YORKIE!!! - I mean HONESTLY.

I gotta be honest - to me, none of this makes even a LITTLE bit of sense. Why is it "OK" to have preference over the color, gender, etc., and not the size? And for those of you who mentioned the kids...THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. Kids aren't something that you go out and "BUY" and search for and "PICK OUT" - they are a gift from God that is GIVEN to you - you don't HAVE a choice in what your child is going to look like, you take what God gives ya.

And I do NOT believe that she should keep this pup "just because" it's a Yorkie. I mean I'm sorry, but WHAT THE HECK????? That doesn't even seem realistic to me. It is just a TAD bit ABSURD. Doesn't make any sense. Why should she keep something that she paid ALOT of money for if it's not what she wanted?? Do most people do that with other types of things?? Because I know I sure don't. If she KNOWS in her heart of hearts that this isn't the Yorkie that she had in mind, and if she hasn't even bonded with it - why not spare the pup of possibly MORE heartache in the future if she decided to re-home her later? And then there is always the possibility of it not working out with the NEXT owner - and who knows, the pup may have to be re-homed again. How stressful would THAT be for the puppy? Why not do what she feels is best and return her to the breeder while she is still young?

I am NOT trying to sound rude, or hateful - and I am not angry or upset with ANYONE here - I am just stating the way I truly feel about this whole issue. I believe (and I think that most would agree, at least when referring to anything OTHER than a YORKIE) that you should be HAPPY and SATISFIED with what YOU PAY FOR. And I believe that if you are NOT happy with what you paid for, that if given the option, you should return it and get what YOU WANTED. JMO and it is as simple as that

Anyway - I just had to respond again, and truthfully - I have no idea why. It doesn't matter what we all think - in the end she is going to do what she is going to do - and that is what she SHOULD do. It is HER choice, it is HER decision. We can all sit here for another WEEK replying back and forth to this thread - and the discussion will STILL be heated. Everyone has their own views, everyone has their own opinions, and that's how it will ALWAYS be.

NOW - goodnight, I am going to bed lol

I am sorry your pet has not turned out to be all or less than you expected. I hope you do take some things said into consideration though, I live with a 3 lb yorkie and a 9 lb yorkie. I also live with a 100 lb German Shepherd. The 9 lb yorkie is big enough that I am not freaking out everytime it is playtime in our house, the 3 lb yorkie gets picked up is not allowed to play if the GSD is playing (she hates this), she is not allowed to be on the floor if there are many people in the house and she is NEVER NEVER allowed to be on the floor if there is any excitement with the other dogs, all for fear she might get stepped on and SERIOUSLY injured.

Recently she had a ear/sinus infection. I just went thru this with the GSD, his cost me 95.00 inc medication. Hers? 321.00. If you cannot commit to an extra 2-3 lbs I hope you are able to commit to the extra money owning a tiny comes with. Just my 2 cents.

I just read all this and I want to say that Zoe is very beautiful and I hope you change your mind and keep her! She looks very happy, if you do give her back, you may stress her out.

Good luck to you!

I think you should find her a new home and definately get one at least 6 months of age. Save your money and if it costs more for the one you want and will be happy with, then do it.

I know this is a board who loves their pets like human babies...so they don't understand. I do. I bought a long haired chihuahua when I first wanted a small dog. She grew to over 12 pounds. She lived 15 years. 15 years is a long time to wish you had a tiny small dog. I am not a horrible person, just someone who wanted a tiny dog and didn't get it. Yes, I loved her but honestly, probably not as much as my husband did. Pets are NOT children...I don't care how many times they say that on here. They're just NOT. It's in NO way the same. Really, given the choice of saving your child or your pet..it's not even a question that needs asking. If you find Zoe another home she'll be loved and you'll feel better and the new owner will be happy so it's a win win situation.

You have one life, a pet lives a very very long time. Don't let anyone make you feel bad. People rehome their pets all the time for various reasons. A 6 pound dog is bigger than a 3 pounder and yes, a 3 pounder is smaller. Good luck, I have a feeling that if you listed Zoe for sale on this site she'd be snatched up pretty darn fast and go to a good home. Good luck

Oh, I'm NOT picking on her. She asked if we thought it was okay to give her up, my point was that if she doesn't feel this way, then go ahead.

The only problem that I have here, is not that she wants a smaller yorkie. It has NOTHING to do with that. It is that she is the one that purchased this pup. SHE picked THIS PUPPY out of all of the ones that are available. I just don't understand why she bought it in the first place. If it has only been a week, and she is not happy with her size, she should have recognized this BEFORE she brought her home. I could understand if it were a couple months later and the pup had grown tremendously, then I could understand being disappointed. But only a week ago, she picked THIS puppy out of all of them. That is the part that bothers me. When people make impulse buys instead of doing the research and seeking out exactly what they want. This is not a car we are talking about here...it is a living, breathing creature that deserves love and not just someone who makes impulse buys and then changes their minds. it has NOTHING to do with her wanting a small yorkie. that is NOT why I am upset about it at all. I don't blame people for wanting small ones...they are so incredibly precious. I wanted a small one as well, but then realized it probably wasn't the best idea for me and my house with a 5 yr old child and 2 bigger dogs. So instead of seeking out the smaller yorkies, I simply stuck with my search for a good breeder and a female yorkie...no matter the size.

I am not angry with this lady..I just really feel bad for the pup that thinks she has gone home with a family that loves her and she is no doubt trying to get attached to this family. it is just sad, that's all.

Hey, I feel so sorry for you. Everyone is jumping all over you when really it is your decision. I suspect there are many more who have been in your predicament who quietly did what they felt was best, and that probably should've been what you did. Because, just from being a member here for a couple of months, I know that the YT'ers are hard on folks who want a teeny, tiny dog.

I was in a similar situation when years ago I purchase a Shih tzu. I thought I wanted what was called an "Imperial" Shih tzu, which I guess is the same thing as the "teacup" yorkie, with the same stigma. The breeder that I bought from told me he would probably be about 7 lbs. Well, after a good month, and he went from 4 lbs to 6 lbs, and he was only 12 weeks, I knew that he wasn't gonna be that small. And at first I was mad. I wanted this little thing that I could take everywhere with me. You know, scoop him up in one arm and keep rolling. To make a long story short, he grew to be 11 pounds. Which is standard for a Shih tzu. And he actually was still a small dog. Couldn't fit in a purse, but I traveled with him alot, and it was very easy. And I did grow to love him more and more as the days went by. I liked him at the beginning, because reality of the situation is once the serious infatuation wears off, and you realize that the dog won't poop where you want, they scream at night, they chew up your walls and furniture, the pull all the trash out of the cans, they run from you when you are late to work and you need to crate them, they steal everything that you don't want them to..........it became a growing thing. I LOVE my Shih tzu today. He's been through alot with my family. But the instant thing just wasn't what happened to me. I can relate with you. I guess I am just saying that whatever you decide, it's okay. Do what makes you happy, don't be guilted into anything just because some of us may not agree. Nobody here has to live with it.
