Looks like you were. Prices do vary all over by area, breeder, and puppy but that is a pretty high price you paid! I actually paid at the high end for this area but not because they bred tinies but they breed dogs to standard and have healthy puppies. Both kept their dogs and puppies in their homes and you could tell they genuinely cared about them.
The Yorkie is a TOY breed -- so they are all toy dogs. The term "teacup" should not have such negative connotations -- it does for Yorkies because unethical breeders have bred such small dogs that they have put their health and the health of their puppies at risk. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has actually put it in their Code of Conduct/Ethics that breeders are NOT to use the term in any advertisement of their dogs. The unethical ones just do not belong to the YTCA.
Your breeder sounds like one to steer clear from -- multiple breeds, advertising teacups, and now not answering when you try to get service after the sale. Although you paid a hefty price, don't feel too bad. Think of it this way -- what we pay for our Yorkies up front is actually a small amount compared to what we will pay over the long run -- the tip of the ice berg. They are like kids -- we will spend a fortune on them and they will be worth every penny! :) |
