You can never guess what size they will be as adults. They will always suprise you on how big they get or how small they stay.

Most of mine have had big growth spurts but by 5 to 6 months old they completely stopped growing. My maltese puppies are 3 months old and they are close to 4 pounds already. But I am pretty sure they will be 6 pounds as adults. The line they come from all have grew fast and stopped by 5 to 6 months old and all have been in 5-6 pound range. I even have their brother from a differnt litter, same parents, and even he followed this pattern. So it is unlikely that your pup will be as small as you want, she may suprise you and not get as big as you think. You just never know.

The breeder told me Max would be 3 lbs. He's 9 months and 3lbs. 4 oz. and has stopped gaining. The breeder was right on!

Lucy is 11 mos and 9.5 lbs. Rebel is 16 weeks and 2.8 lbs. I'm crazy about them both and don't really care about the size as long as they're healthy and happy. God knows they're loved:)

I can understand the frustration with the breeder but it is because you don't understand. I bought my little male because I was looking for a smaller yorkie. he weighed nine ounces at eight weeks and the breeder told me that she would GUESS he would be about four and not over five pounds as an adult based on his parents sizes. Well,, that little booger had a growth spurt at about five months old and went off the puppy growth chart on here. i was mad at the breeder. Then, guess what happened, he slowed his gaining down and at the age of six and a half,, maybe seven months, he topped out. He is a year and a half old now and weighs four pounds, maybe four and a half pounds on a good day when no one else is in heat. When I have a girl in heat, he loses a few ounces cause he stops eating. I learned really fast tho that no breeder can give you an exact size and no one that I know guarantees size. it's just impossible. All you can do is look at thee size of the parents and make an estimate. I have a litter now that I am expecting to be between three and five pounds when grown. One of Ceeby's past pup was estimated to be between five and six pounds because she took after her mother. But that is still a small dog and just right for showing or breeding or just to be a snuggle bug.

Lily is almost 7 months and she is about 3 lbs. To be so small she is full of spunk and energy, and she isn't afraid of anything.

How much did she charge and how much was she charging for pups with larger predictions? I would probably be a little frustrated with a breeder that had made a surcharge for something that was not so. You know now that no one can predict the size but a first time buyer usually does put some trust in the breeder. I did too. ]

My first Yorkie came from an individual selling her pet "due to health reasons." I was misled a bit there but you usually expect an experienced breeder to know more and maybe be more forthcoming. That was the case when I bought the two puppies I have now. Both breeders knew a lot more and gave me tons of information, about the breed and their lines. They gave me good info and did not try to misrepresent anything.

So, if you really feel the breeder misled you and want to appproach her at least to let her know what you think of her business ethics -- go for it. But most sales contracts say they do not guarantee size so you may not see any rebate $$. In the meantime, enjoy your Yorkie -- I bet yours will not get very large and you will be so in love, size won't matter.

Nope your not the only one who is confused why someone would "want" a runt. The 4lb - 7lbs breed standard is very small as is, I really can't understand why people would desire anything smaller.

This isn't an attack on anyone btw, I realise that some people are not educated on the down side of "teacups" until after purchase esp when there are so many unscrupulous breeders out there.

Maddie is 9 months old and 3.2lbs. I was told she should be around 4lbs grown. But we dont think she is going to even be that. She has stopped growing, but maybe she will start again later. lol

I'm not trying to start anything....just wondering???where did you read this? I know this is true with poodles but I have never heard this about yorkies.:confused:

Both of my yorkies are under 4 lbs...Hootie is 8 months old and 3 lbs and Hobbs is 15 months old and 3.6 lbs.

And there are NOT 3 sizes of yorkies. The AKC only recognizes one standard and that is 7lbs or under. Anything over that is NOT "standard" rather it is above standard. And anything under 7lbs is NOT tiny or teacup, but rather just "standard."

I wish she would get to 5 lbs, but she is now 8 months old, so not sure she will.

She's beautiful and awesome though. And extremely healthy.

Hi, I don't think anyone can truly predict the final size of a dog. However, I think sometimes a good estimate can be given. I'm sure your dog is beautiful. Try not to worry over the size thing. My Trixie was a little over 3 lbs. at 7 months and now at 15 months she is just about 5 lbs. As long as their healthy, who cares what they weigh!! :D Good luck with your baby!!

I am also someone that was told by the breeder that my Mickey would be 3-4 lbs when full grown. She is now 5 months and weighs 5lbs. She appears to have stopped growing, but you never know.
I can understand feeling as though you paid for something that you did not get, because at first I felt the same way.
But after having her for the past few months and falling completely in love with her, I would not want her any other way. I am really glad she is not 3 lbs. She is soooooo active and is always jumping, running and playing with my other dog and 2 cats that are 11 lbs, 14 lbs and 19 lbs. I would be scared to death to let her play rough and tumble if she was only 3 lbs. She fits into our family much better being the size she is. And although she is 5 lbs she is really tiny and she still rules the roost and keeps her furbaby brother and sisters in line! She is a riot. We could not love her anymore no matter what size she was.

Hey Debbie will you post a pic of her with something in it for a size difference like a pop can or something Peeka is the same weight and age and i would love to see the comparison between the 2 she is beautiful. Just curious cause Peeka's litter brother Boo is 3.9 lbs but Peeka is Smaller so i would like to see another baby about the same for comparison thanks!:thumbup:
