| Wood or Carpet? We are planning on remodeling our bedroom after the holidays. I have been considering hardwood flooring instead of carpet. Now I am starting to become a bit worried with having the furbabies in the bedroom. They sleep with us, and Shelby will occasionally jump off the bed if we don't get to her quick enough. (Seymour will wait for us to lift him and set him down) I know that landing on a hard surface could be horrific...... and Shelbs won't use doggie steps I have allergies and the wood floor would be much better for me healthwise....... So what so ya think Yorkie talkers? Would an area rug over the hardwood flooring be soft enough? I am starting to think that with this doubt, maybe I should just stick with carpet and deal with the allergies...... Does anyone have hardwood floors? How do your Yorkies handle it? |

| You could always get some steps for the pups to use so that they won't jump We're going with wood when we remodel also, carpet is just nasty, ewww! When we pulled up the carpet in our living room it was HEINOUS! Good luck!!!!!!!!!

| I think she said one dog won't use the steps. The way I got my older one to use them, was put a snack on each step, and on the bed at the top of the steps. I kept doing this till he got full or started using the steps, lol. I have hardwood floors in my bedroom, with no area rug, cause of allergies too. Adonis weighs 6 lbs, and he's never had problems hopping up there, or back down. When I got Venus back in August, I knew she needed steps to get up and down, as she was pretty small. I'd certainly do wood floors. My carpet that I put in the living room and hall back in 2001 is nasty, and no matter how much I clean it, still doesn't look clean. I now wish I did them with wood! The wood floor in my bedroom still looks great. I put that down about the same time. If your still worried about the wood floor, put an area rug down. But I'd sure try the treats on every step and the bed first. |

| I had my own business installing tile and wood flooring for a while. The horror of seeing the underside of carpet is just awful. I don't think I'll ever have it again. The area rugs and/or teaching the pup to use the doggy steps is the most sensible. With a little encouragement, they take to the steps. The area rug is just a little insurance in case they change their minds, and if you buy a good one, it will offer enough padding to ease the landing. Just make sure you get one with the anti-slip backing as you could find yourself landing in an uncomfortable way! |
