| Yorkies and cold weather!!! My little Yorkie is not a tiny one -- he's about 12 pounds or so.... but really still a very little dog. Anyway - I have continued to let him and my other dog out five or six times a day. I let him (the Yorkie stay out for only 5 or sp) because it is cold. I am really letting him out to go pee...... but he's on his long leash so he can run and play with my other dog in the snow for a few minutes...which he loves. I don't put any clothes on him because he's just pee on them and then really get cold and not enjoy his few minutes in the snow. What I wanted to tell you guys is that he doesn't want to come in. When I go out - he runs in the opposite direction and I have to literally drag him back in - and then finally pick him up and make him come back into the house. If I ever say the word "outside," he about knocks me over getting to the door. He has a nice thick coat for a little Yorkie and he certainly never seems to get cold - never shivers, etc. -- plus I think letting him out several times every day has helped him acclimate to the weather change. But do remember - he is never out more than a few minutes - and, when it really gets cold here - I'll go out with him and bring him right back in. Do any of your dogs love going out into the winter weather as much as mine? Carol Jean PS: I walked him to the mailbox today (about a block) and put his beautiful red coat on him. And - you've guessed it. He pee'd on it. And, he still didn't want to come in....... I need to look for some winter wear that has been made for little boys! |

| Hi, We are in Scotland and lots of snow but doggies here dont have clothes no where to buy them. My dogs 7lbs and 9 lbs go walking in the snow a lot and get totally wet they love it. I dont walk longer than 20 mins in the snow they do shiver when we get back to car or house and stop walking but only for a few mins till start to dry off. The few times I have ordered clothes on line the sweaters get all wet and muddy on the bottom and hold the wet against them making them shiver worse. Waterproofs are so thin they offer no warmth. And yes me little boy pees on the underside of his jumper to it is hard to get a proper fit. Ruthx

| My Tia Maria is not a big fan of the cold, but I've never seen her shivering. We go on walks and gets used to the temp change. She is a "teapot" weighing in at a whopping 11 lbs so maybe that helps. I get a lot of her clothes at Target - they have super cute stuff and the prices are great. Good luck! |

| i have a couple of fleece lined windbreakers, i wash them with a waterproof solution that i buy at a sporting good store, that helps and they fasten with velcro on bottom and i leave it a little open on Poli so he dont pee on it, he still squatts at times but sometimes he raises his leg just a little. I also wash fleece hoodies in the same solution , and it does help, kinda spendy though !

| Toby is 6 lbs and hates the wet grass. We do not get very cold weather here nor do we get it often so he does not have to contend with it. But he did fall in the pool the other day when the water was about 65 degrees and he was a shivering when we scooped him out......yes, he can swim. I think his big sister, Kallie the maltese, may have had something to do with him taking a dip. I have my suspisions but can't prove it!

| My Cooper is 5lbs and he loves the snow.....not so much just plain cold weather....but LOVES the snow. If it isnt snowing he will stay out 5-10 minutes in the cold and shiver(sometimes with a coat on sometimes without) but when the snow hits it's like pulling teeth to get him in....he could easily stay out a half hour running around and making angels without a shiver. I guess each are different and have their preferences. It's up to us to pay attention to them and let them have their fun also. |

| Maizee HATES the cold and snow. It just snowed 15 inches here this weekend and I have to practically throw her out the door to get her to go potty. Sadly, I probably have more clothes for her than I do for myself! She usually wears a sweater and a coat when she goes outside because she has alopecia (no hair) and she shivers up a storm. I know I've seen somewhere where you can buy sweaters and coats where it is cut up more on the tummy to prevent "accidents" on the outfits. I'll try to find that. Otherwise, there are a couple of older ladies that just love to knit up outfits for her! Maybe you can ask someone you know to make them. My grandmother said its pretty simple to make the outfits, but I'm terrible at knitting. |

| My Rose really loves to go outside in the snow. I try not to let her stay out too long but she would stay out for much longer.

| ginger has a fleece snowsuit! Gingers 12 lbs too, but has a VERY THIN coat... The first time I tried to take her out in the snow she took one look and ran into the living room . So, I picked her up and carried her outside (to the lovely area I had shoveled). She turned and ran to the porch and stood their shivering. So, I returned her to the yard and reminded her (somewhat firmly) to go potty (I always say this and she knows what it means) Well she peed and ran back to the porch. Once inside I spent ten minutes washing off the snowballs that had formed all over her underside. The next time I took her outside I put her in her snowsuit first (I hadn't initially because I didn't think we'd been out that long, and the few times I tried it on her in the house she stood there like she couldn't move) No kidding, I took her out in that warm snuggly snowsuit and she took off running and jumping through the snow...even the deep snow. When I took her in, I removed the snowsuit, tossed it in the dryer...no snowballs on Ginger!!! We love our snow suit!

| We've had a couple of snowfalls already and my 8 month 3lb Max loves the snow. He runs like a maniac though it!. does his "business" in 1 minute flat and is inside. He dosn't mind the cold...the wind really bothers him though. He always wears a sweater. Just bought him boots. Comical the first few times he wore them lifting his legs so high. Now he wears them no problem. |

| Maizee's mom. Went to WIU in the early 70's. I remember walking across campus when the wind and snow would pick up. It was brutal. Sure its changed. haven't been in Macomb since 1972. |
