| Help Me Hello Everyone, I need some advice because my 9 month old yorkie unfortuantely has the hip dysplasia which is a disease that is a inherited condition either from his mom/dad/grandpa/grandma. I was just wondering even though I bought him from a breeder is it their responsibility to somehow compensate with this situation? Thank you all for your opinion |

| How unfortunate!!! If your pup really does have diagnosed hip dysplasia (via x-rays) then you may want to take a look at the elbows and knees too. Hip dysplasia effects all breeds and while our little ones, clearly, aren't imune to it-it's not common. And when we do see it, we often see other joint issues as well. In regards to compensation from the breeder, that would all depend on: A: Whether or not you signed a contract binding them to a health guarantee including congenital defects up to a year or longer B: If they have any morals within their breeding program Sorry about your little one! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I agree with yorkiek9trainer. Top breeders offer health guarantees, but you would have had to sign that in advance. Lacking that, a breeder with morals would work with you. You could ask for a refund or ask for money to use for surgery, if that's an option. Once the problem is documented with your vet, you should alert the breeder so they can consider no longer breeding the stud and/or bitch. Good luck. I feel for you. I'm sure you're attached to you pup by now.
