| Maybe Someone Can Answer This Question Hi Everyone, I Recently Had My 15 Month Old Yorkie Neutered. I Bought Him At 14 Months And He Never Did The Thing With The Throat Where They Are Trying To Gasp For Air. I Know Alot Of Small Breed Dogs Have This , But Before I Had Him Neutered I Had Him For 1 Month And He Never Did The Choking Thing. Now That I Had Him Done , It Has Been 1 1/2 Weeks Today, He Is Constantly Doing It. He Does Not Even Have To Get Excited, He Will Just Start The Choking. My Question Is, Does Anyone Think The Vet Damaged His Trachea ? Is This Common After An Operation. Also After The Operation He Was Very Very Hoarse, And He Could Hardly Even Get A Bark Out. I Have To Sit With Him And Rub His Throat, And Hope He Will Stop. I Am Very Worried That The Vet Did Damage. Thanks For Everyones Help, You All Have Been A Great Help To Me With My New Little Yorkie. | I went through this with my girl no very long ago. She was doing it every day several times and she had done it before but once in a blue moon. Anyway I took her to the vet and they gave me the alternative to benadryl for dogs and she was supposed to get better but she never did. Anyways I took her in again and the vet was going to do something where they had to put her under to look at her brain but thank God she stopped like two days before. She now is fine does it every now and then but she is fine. Maybe you need to ask for these meds. I know that it feel horrible and just desperate as you feel they are suffering and full of discomfort. Just hang in there. |

| If they intubated him (put a tube down his throat) during surgery (oxygen/anesthetic) -- he certainly could have come home with a sore throat that might last for a while. This is even very common with people following many surgeries. I know after open heart surgery - my father had a sore throat (and almost no voice) for quite a while. *** I'm not sure there is much you can do about this. I doubt his throat actually hurts him now - and I would expect further improvement. If he doesn't get any better - give your vet a call - Good luck - Carol Jean |

| It is common for them to experience this right after a surgery. In some dogs, it is worse than others. The tube the put down their throat really irrates it, especially if you have a smaller yorkie, and the irration can last for awhile. If it doesn't go away soon, have her checked by the vet just to make sure their is no infection.
