If they intubated him (put a tube down his throat) during surgery (oxygen/anesthetic) -- he certainly could have come home with a sore throat that might last for a while.

This is even very common with people following many surgeries.

I know after open heart surgery - my father had a sore throat (and almost no voice) for quite a while.

*** I'm not sure there is much you can do about this. I doubt his throat actually hurts him now - and I would expect further improvement.

If he doesn't get any better - give your vet a call -
