| Loki gets nervous on leash so we don't do sidewalk greetings with unfamiliar dogs, although he is improving dramatically. I take him to daycare once a week with our trainer (who is a behaviorist and completely certified) and there he plays with everything from beagles to labs to dobermans - some of which are his "friends" and others may be new. I also let him play with the big lab mix next door who he is friendly with. Loki is 11 pounds and can hold his own with the big dogs. At daycare they mostly chase each other - he's not really a wrestler.

What she said! The only place we really run into other big dogs that aren't already friends is at the ballpark and I pick Tatum up when I see one coming our way. One big dog that she always played with was my husband's uncle's German Shepherd but towards the end of her days (the shepherd's), his uncle confessed that he wasn't really comfortable with Tatum playing with her one on one anymore because she would get really cranky and snappy due to health problems. I was grateful he pointed that out.... we never had any problems with the two of them but I definitely made her keep a little distance from then on. You're not being a snob! To those that don't really understand the "small dog world" it might seem that way but it's so much better to be safe. It only takes a split second for something really horrible to happen. It may not even be intentional on the big dog's part but you have to be really selective on who you let the littles play with.

| I mean no offense to any one this is just my way. It does not mean it is everyones way. Yes, we go to the dog park several times a week. We have been going their since Katy was 4 months old. There is both a big dog and a little dog section. For the most part Katy goes to the big dog side, as do most of the small dogs. Occasionally, there is a big dog who has an issue with it and we will move to the little dog side. Sometimes it seems like the parents of the big dog or little dog are move afraid than the dog itself. You have to respond to what your dog is communicating. If they are afraid, then introduce and limit the experience until they either learn to handle it or keep them in the smaller area. Older large dogs are good at teaching them and are usually more tolerant. Now they will still set boundaries for the little ones but that is how they learn. I took the same attitude with my daughter. My job is to prepare them for the world. If they never get the experience of how to act or relate to the big dog, then what happens on that one time when they accidently get out of the door. That same rule applies to cars, street crossings etc., They need to learn how to behave and respond in those situations. |

| I am really envious when it comes to having parks with space divided for big dogs and small dogs. I wish it is the same here. We have a doggie park for our condo dogs only. You would think condo dogs are small dogs but so far, I have seen a Rottie, a boxer, many labs, goldens, an Irish Setter. Further down where we live, we have a bigger park but it is not divided for big dogs and small dogs and not fenced either. Although dogs are required to be on leash, some owners let their dogs off and they are usually big dogs. I always carry my baby and leave when it happens and I sometimes feel mad at those owners because they are being selfish; very selfish and ignorant of others.I sometimes walk my baby there as there are lots of trees and nature, if you get what I mean just to let him be a dog. I am just sharing my feelings..because I am angry now for I just came back from the park because someone let their big dog off leash and was running all over the park.

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Potter - I have a place called Millie Park for dogs near me - touted best in the country - (not by me - on their website) the dogs even in the small breed area are almost ALL bigger than yorkies so it's really just a matter of judgement.... I agree WE need to convey messages when we're out - but it only takes one second for a yorkie to be laying on the ground or crying in pain. we have to be extra careful no matter where we are. |

Yeah, I know you are right. I will have to be extra careful with him. I mean I was careful with him before but now I will be extra careful I will stick to his five doggie friends that I know and can trust. If not, I am carrying him and leaving!

| I've been round a few times with my neices husband. Thank God, they live out of town, so Adonis hasn't had to deal with their rockwiler very often. He has a rock...about 1 year old now. Dogs name is Max. Max wants to play with Adonis, but dang, max is 110 lbs! Max plays too rough. Neices hubby wants Max to be around other dogs, lol. Adonis sits on the back of the sofa when we visit, lol. And when we go off, I put Adonis in the bedroom, away from Max. I wouldn't even go there, but my Mom is 93, and lives with neice out there. Now my baby sis has some dogs, Adonis loves to go play with. They are larger dogs, but nothing as near as large as a 110 lb rockwiler! I know these dogs well, and they are all sweethearts. Max still needs a lot of time spent with him, socializing. But I'm not about to use Adonis as the gunnie pig! I keep them as separated as I can when I'm out there. Last trip, I swore after Max was all over me, I'd never go back. I picked up a piece of newspaper, swatted him on the butt once...he ran...neices hubby got all over me. I didn't hurt Max, but the newspaper got his attention, where "down Max" and pushing him off me wasn't working. I have a friend out there now, and I been staying with her, when I want to see my Mother. |

| I will never let Piccolo play with a big dog because it only takes a second to hurt him.

| I worry about Buddy around BIG dogs and he's 13lb, those of you that have tiny ones must be petrified. I have alot of woods and countryside around me so most of the time Buddys off a lead but if anything bigger heads our way not on a lead i always attach his harness so i can get him up faster if i need to. I know to a lot of you he would look big at 13lb but to most other dogs he's still very very small. I get soooo annoyed at people who let dogs off the lead knowing their dog isn't very friendly, its like they don't care if their dog gets in a fight cos if its a big dog they know it wont get too hurt. We recently heard that a poodle got killed by a german shepherd dog on a beach near here and the gsd owner just said...'ohh sorry, didnt notice what he was doing'
