What she said! The only place we really run into other big dogs that aren't already friends is at the ballpark and I pick Tatum up when I see one coming our way. One big dog that she always played with was my husband's uncle's German Shepherd but towards the end of her days (the shepherd's), his uncle confessed that he wasn't really comfortable with Tatum playing with her one on one anymore because she would get really cranky and snappy due to health problems. I was grateful he pointed that out.... we never had any problems with the two of them but I definitely made her keep a little distance from then on.
You're not being a snob! To those that don't really understand the "small dog world" it might seem that way but it's so much better to be safe. It only takes a split second for something really horrible to happen. It may not even be intentional on the big dog's part but you have to be really selective on who you let the littles play with.
