| Advice Needed for my puppy not eating asap Hello everyone, I just got my first yorkie baby boy and his breeder has raised him to eat only natural products. For instance, whole boiled egg chopped up for breakfast and Innova natural dog food. Also he won't drink his water on his own either, I'm using a dropper to give him the water little by little. What else can I give him? He is having a hard time eating his natural dry dog food since I just got him on Saturday. Try to breeder late yesterday but no answer yet. Any advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Maria19 |

| Definitely Nutrical, but also you could try yogurt. Have you been wetting his food. Just add warm water to his kibble them when it gets moist mash it up for him...

| If you don't have neutra-cal....seems someone here said kayro (sp?) syrup. But I'd certainly buy some neutra-cal. My breeder sent home a tube of it with me, and I've used it several times. Maybe your pup isn't quite weened yet. I had to teach Venus how to drink from a bowl. I'd dip my fingers in it...let her lap it off my fingers...as I'd slowly move my fingers closer to the bowl. This took a day or 2 of doing this and she learned. I'd also mix some high quality canned food in with the dry food for the first week or so. Pup might also just eat the canned and leave the dry right now. Not knowing how old your dog is...its kinda hard to tell on some things. I got Venus at 8 weeks, and she certainly wasn't ready for all dry food that first week. |

| You could try mixing the food with cottage cheese. The baby food and the caesars are good ideas too

| Great info above. Try a smidge of nutrical. If he doesn't want it, then put it to the roof of his palate and he will eat it then. Good luck

| Try anything to get your puppy to eat, get baby food in the grocery store, chicken sausages by Gerber or mashed turkey by Beech Nut, that's good for the picky eaters, or try puppy wet food. NutriCal or Karo Syrup, even honey. My pup eg used to be a picky eater at the beginning but loved the taste of NutriCal and I mixed a little bit with his dry heated up kibble and mashed it all around, he always was up for that... Then eventually move towards good quality dry kibble, he'll get better with it, good luck. Oh, how old is your baby?

| Toto wouldn't eat the first few days we had her either ... she was 16 weeks. Our breeder sent home enough of the food she had been loving to last us probably 5-6 months, had she eaten it! It was the frozen Bil Jac and it smells awful ... I called her back to make sure it wasn't spoiled! She weighed 1 lb. 8 oz. the day we brought her home and lost 3 oz. the first day ... I took her back to the vet 3 times that week. She had us give her a little peasized drop of Vet Formula Nutri-Cal 3-4 times a day for about 6-8 months. She never ate a bite of the Bil Jac for us and is, to this day, the pickiest eater you ever saw but has always been disgustingly healthy!! I would say if he is at least eating a little something but drinking plenty of water, he would be fine. They dehydrate very quickly. Good luck and please keep us updated.

| I find puppies sometimes are sold before they have good eating habits! When I wean my puppies, I make warm goats milk with honey in it to get them started, I put it on my finger and they try to suck it. That will let you know the puppy is not completely weaned. Try mighty dog, beef or gourmet, mash it in a bowl, and add hot water from the can of mighty dog, and let the puppy lap it up, when they won't eat they will lap their food up, and heating it makes it smell better. If that doesn't work, scramble eggs, mash on a dish and put just a little liver worst (Braunschweiger, about a fourth of a thin slice) mash it into the eggs and your puppy will love it. Always make sure your baby has goats milk with honey you have to warm the goats milk to get the honey to melt, you can also add an egg yolk, that will make a nice shake for a fussy eater. When trying to get puppies weaned you will try just about anything, be careful, you can really upset their tummies to the point of having to get them to the Vet. It's best to give bland food, mixed with hot water till they can eat the softened hard food mixed with a puppy food like puppy Cesar always works, and does not upset their stomach. I also make meat loaf, with eggs, tomatoes, rice, white cheese, peas and carrots, and a little garlic, mix well, bake, than slice and make sure you serve warm, having mashed the peas and carrots with a fork. White chicken breast boiled, shredded, with rice, peas and carrots they love, add the rice to the wated used to boil the chicken, add peas and carrots with the juice, I use canned as it is easier to mash. Alternate the meat loaf and the chicken, and your puppy will thrive, always have dry small bite for the puppy and add 1 tbl. spoon of White Karol Suyrup, in a pint of water to keep blood sugar level, heat the water so you can mix the Suyrup. Mashing liver worst just a tad, with their wet food always helps them to eat. Always watch their bottoms to make sure they do not have any poops stuck, as that can kill your puppy. You have a new baby and believe me some of them are babies all their lives, right now I have a little girl, that is 4 mos. old that is only 2 lbs. and is a very fussy eater, she loves her milk shake, and scrambled eggs just plain, add the liver worst as a last resort! I have a lot more ideas, but this should help for now. Good luck, and let me know if any of this helps! |

| Ditto with the above. In addition, I have the same experience with you when I change Chelsea's food to Innova. Innova pebbles are a bit big for puppy. I mixed the food with merrick can food (or if you can't find it use Cesar). Mixed it well or glaze the dry food. You can also boil chicken and mixed the food with chicken soup. |

| Innova does make small bites which are much much smaller, and if you do not have the small bites i would maybe try those, or just softening the kibble with some low fat chicken stock.

| I am just wondering which Innova did you use ? I am using the innova for puppy (the red one) which I think is quite big. The small one I thought is for adult. |

| Update on my baby boy Nene' hello everyone, Many thanks for all of your expert advise. I knew I can count on all of you. Sorry I couldn't respond any sooner. But my boy is doing okay so far. His appetite opened up by the next day i posted. He is still eating puppy Innova Dry bits. I have given him steamed carrots mashed, mashed bananas, and fresh pears, chopped up and shredded broiled chicken about only 1 tablespoon worth since i didn't know how he would react to it. Also I put about 1/2 tsp of cod liver oil in his meal at midday or morning meal. He has been drinking plenty of water on his own. The new issue is his potty training. He has been with me only 1 1/2 weeks tomorrow. I pray that I can train him by December since Im planning on going back to school possibly again come Jan or Feb 2007. Many thanks for all of your help, Nene' and Maria19 |
