| I find puppies sometimes are sold before they have good eating habits!
When I wean my puppies, I make warm goats milk with honey in it to get them started, I put it on my finger and they try to suck it. That will let you know the puppy is not completely weaned.
Try mighty dog, beef or gourmet, mash it in a bowl, and add hot water from the can of mighty dog, and let the puppy lap it up, when they won't eat they will lap their food up, and heating it makes it smell better.
If that doesn't work, scramble eggs, mash on a dish and put just a little liver worst (Braunschweiger, about a fourth of a thin slice) mash it into the eggs and your puppy will love it.
Always make sure your baby has goats milk with honey you have to warm the goats milk to get the honey to melt, you can also add an egg yolk, that will make a nice shake for a fussy eater.
When trying to get puppies weaned you will try just about anything, be careful, you can really upset their tummies to the point of having to get them to the Vet. It's best to give bland food, mixed with hot water till they can eat the softened hard food mixed with a puppy food like puppy Cesar always works, and does not upset their stomach.
I also make meat loaf, with eggs, tomatoes, rice, white cheese, peas and carrots, and a little garlic, mix well, bake, than slice and make sure you serve warm, having mashed the peas and carrots with a fork.
White chicken breast boiled, shredded, with rice, peas and carrots they love, add the rice to the wated used to boil the chicken, add peas and carrots with the juice, I use canned as it is easier to mash. Alternate the meat loaf and the chicken, and your puppy will thrive, always have dry small bite for the puppy and add 1 tbl. spoon of White Karol Suyrup, in a pint of water to keep blood sugar level, heat the water so you can mix the Suyrup.
Mashing liver worst just a tad, with their wet food always helps them to eat.
Always watch their bottoms to make sure they do not have any poops stuck, as that can kill your puppy. You have a new baby and believe me some of them are babies all their lives, right now I have a little girl, that is 4 mos. old that is only 2 lbs. and is a very fussy eater, she loves her milk shake, and scrambled eggs just plain, add the liver worst as a last resort!
I have a lot more ideas, but this should help for now. Good luck, and let me know if any of this helps! |
