| ![]() A breakaway collar won't be of much good if the collar comes off, leaving the tags with it. For added safety, I would microchip my baby.

| ![]() Would a regular collar, one that doesn't break away, be better?? |

| ![]() Ferdinand always wears a regular (not breakaway) collar with his ID tag on it. I bought it at Muttropolis and it's red with white stiching. He always has it on unless he's getting a bath. It doesn't bother him at all. We're going to microchip him too in a couple weeks.

| ![]() I put break-away buckles on some of the collars I make and do recommend them for furkids who wear collars all of the time. HOWEVER, it takes a considerable amount of pulling and twisting for the collar to break loose. Please don't depend upon the break-away collars keeping our furkid's delicate trachea area safe ![]() |

| ![]() Mine all wear regular collars all day. I have never had any problems with them, the dogs don't mind them at all and they don't break or matt the hair. Poptart and Destiny also wear step in harnesses all day but Trixie and Scampers can't wear a step in harness all day because they chew through them, ![]()

| ![]() Mine is never without her collar. Her hair has never rubbed off. She has always had one. My son let my male out of the apartment I just moved to. The person that found him got a hold of me by calling his vet for our number. I could have lost him.

| ![]() My yorkie always wears his collar with his tags on it --- 24/7. (You never know when one of these little guys will get loose.) But - when I take him for "real walks" - out comes the harness - because he really pulls - and this is no time for him to be wearing a collar. Carol JEan |

| ![]() I have a question about microchipping. I wonder how practical it is in rural Arkansas. How many people around here are going to know about it, expect it, think to taking a lost dog to the vet to look for it, etc.? I would have done it if I'd had Susan when I lived in Tulsa, but around here, I'm not sure it's worth it. Anyone else in a rural area have a thought? |

| ![]() I keep Susan in a step-in harness all the time, but it snarls her hair under the "arms". Her tags are on the harness. The harness seems comfy and she's always ready to have her leash snapped on and buzz out the door. I started doing this when I got her because we didn't have a fenced yard and I had to always walk her on a leash. Now we have a fenced yard and I'm thinking of switching to a collar. But since she's used to the harness, what are the relative advantages/disadvantages of collars and harnesses. I had a VERY graphic example of the advantage of harness over a collar when leashed not long before we moved. We were on the deck and I had Susan's leash anchored to something while repotting a plant. She fell off the deck and hung for a few seconds by her harness. If it had been a collar she probably would have choked to death. Scared me something awful, but didn't seem to bother her. She seemed certain I'd be there to rescue her. |
