Collars with tags for safety (not for walks) Yes, I know you are supposed to walk your yorkie with a harness, but I don't like leaving the harness on all day. I have been wanting to get one of those cat safety collars (that comes off if it gets caught on anything) and have their tags on it just in case they happen to run off or something. Does anyone else do this? Does the collar rub the hair off their neck? Does your yorkie sleep in their collar? Where did you get your collar and what does it look like? |
I used one on Phoebe. I had a bell on it so that we could also hear her. I did not find that it rubbed the hair off nor did it become matted. She had a silky coat. The collar I used was a break away cat collar. |

I use a collar with Thor all the time including to walk him with. I know this is a controversial topic or whatever, but I used a harness with him up until a few months ago because I have much better control with him and in return he is much better behaved. He's 11 lbs and NOT sensitive like your little tiny Hootie and Hobbs! Anyways, my point is, that he has always worn a collar with his tags on them, and it has never affected his hair. I'm sure you can just get a little cat collar from petsmart or anywhere to put their tags on. It looks like a regular collar except there is a little elastic part that will break and release if they get caught on something... |

I will post a picture here on this thread later this afternoon, I am on my way out the door. |
Tootie(16 lbs) ALWAYS has his collor on with tags... it doesnt seem to bother anything and he "jingles" everywhere he goes... he also has microchip Hopey, well, she acts like you have a NOOSE around her neck if you put a collar of any type on her(even the C A T one)... She will get chipped when I get brave enough to have her fixed... d |
Cooper and Carley wear their collars 24/7, only taken off for a bath. They are just regular cute dog collars with their id tags on them. Never had a problem with rubbing off hair or anything. They actually like to wear them, I think...when we go to put them on they both sit still as we put them on (not always the normal state of affairs around here, LOL) They wear harnesses for walks, the collars and tags are just for ID purposes. They are never out of our site and are both microchipped, but we feel so much better when they have their ID tags on. They have never hooked their collars up on anything, and we check all the time that they are the right fit around the neck, not too loose, not too tight. I hear all the time about a dog that got loose accidentally and was wearing no tags...my worst nightmare!! |
My pups don't wear collars but then again they almost never leave the house expect in the backyard. |
Sadie's had several collars, including a breakaway cat collar. I never felt safe leaving any of them on her while she was alone - afraid she would hang herself in her x-pen while I was away as she was always trying to get them off. Now I just use a harness when we go for a walk - and no collar when she's in the house. :p |
I have those for Gizmo so in case he gets out he has some typr of visable tags... |

Bruce always wears his collar with an ID tag, tag for his microchip and pet license and they never seem to bother him. I do not want to take the chance of him getting lost sometime (although he is always with me) with no tags on. The collar never bothers him or breaks his hair, then again he is used to it. |
1 Attachment(s) Bree always has a collar on too. She is only 3lbs. I bought a cat collar from WalMart and cut and sewed it to make it smaller. I just feel better that she has it on. And she loves it. If I take it off she spins like crazy until I put it back on. She is so silly! Here is a picture of her with it on!! Attachment 73370 |

Oh! She is SUCH a cute!!!!!!!!!!! My yorkies are 1 year old and 5 months old. How long do you think it will take them to get used to a collar? |
Bree is 18 mo old and I got her at 6 months. She was used to it right away. Now she just goes crazy when shes "naked"!! |
