| ![]() I start shaving the ears at 4-5 weeks old and taping by about 8 weeks if they are not standing on their own...the larger the ear the more difficult it is to get it to stand.

| ![]() Yes, knowing you are looking for SHOW quality does change my opinion. If I were looking for a show or breeding quality Yorkie, I wouldn't take one without the ears standing. That's just me.

| ![]() shave 1/3 down the ear an inverted v inside and out. If they are not standing on their own, I usually tape three days and then undo for a day if one falls I tape the one falling only.

| ![]() If you are looking for show/breeding then it is important to make sure the ears are up. 8 wks is waaay too young to be certain the puppy will meet all the criteria for a show prospect. 6 months and older is when you can be certian of the end result. I am starting to down the long road of showing. I am in the early learning stages. I do have several mentors and they gave me a very good tip when selecting a show prospect Yorkie..it's the 3 fault rule. If the Yorkie you are looking to purchase or hold back from a litter of your own has more than 3 faults then then you should pass. As for showing, if you see 3 faults, the judge will see more. Referring to breeding, more than 3 faults is going to be very challenging to breed out and correct in your lines. Now! what faults can you live with and which ones you can't. IMO that's personal preference. I am talking confirmation faults NOT health big diffrence.. Whew!! So sorry to ramble..I should have warned you guys I am a talker/preacher..ROFL... ![]() Good luck in your search! Yorkie hugs, Irene |

| ![]() Zowie's ears stood up one at a time at around 10 weeks. Bronx ears are down, but I have never shaved his ears. I think he is adorable. I have noticed most people like them up, but it is a distinguishing feature that friends can tell them apart. ![]()

| ![]() YorkieRini, I'm smiling at your apology for a "long" post. Boy, you should see some of mine, and I'm don't know squat about breeder issues! LOL! I try to stay away from technical questions cause Bo is my first Yorkie but I sure can ramble about other things!! I'd love to spend one day in your household full o' Yorkies!! You're gonna fit in here just fine and its great to have another educated opinion in our illustrious group...Welcome!! Bo's ears don't stand, he's six months now and gonna be full of faults but I never intended to breed or show. I didn't know much about Yorkies when I bought him. I'd always had Schnauzers. My husband didn't want a Yorkie but I pushed it and now he's crazy about Bo. Bo is adorable and I wouldn't change a thing about him. Do I eventually want a smaller Yorkie that will have ears that stand? Yes, I eventually want a small female. But I couldn't love Bo more!! He's my baby puppy and Mommy's boy! Yorkies have the most winning personaity of any dog I've ever seen!! ![]()

| ![]() If you are looking for a show quality Yorkie , you should not buy a 6 weeks old puppy . I never see show quality at this age . It must be preferable to buy one of six months or older . |

| ![]() One of my brothers has one ear up and one down and the other has both down. When I got him, both were up. The brother with both ears down is my sisters favorite. They are cute either way |

| ![]() The trick for standing ears 1st you have to shave the ears with like a beard trimmer shave the inside sides and out on the top to take off the access weight now yoou can get some tampon applicators and inser them in to the ear, use for 3 days with tape and remove if the fall re- tape another 3 days check and make sure that the hair is shaved and the weight is off the ears, they will stand also when the tape is off massage the bottom base of the ears to strong ness in the cartlige area if the tip over re-tape , and use tape that done pull when you take it off use a sports tape the white kind works best! start taping at 3 months vet says !!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Shaving is VERY important. There are several ways to tape the ears..Tampon applicators, cutting piece of cardboard to fit the ear and tape it to them, taping them together. The way that works best for ME is folding the ear in half long ways and taping it that way. It's easy and doesn't seem to bother the puppy too much. Not bulky or tempting for the others to grab..ROFL I had a female Yorkie that took until 6 months before her ears would stay up. But persistance paid off..remember to make sure you clean the ears and let air get to them as not to grow bacteria. Hugs, Irene |
