| Picking The Right Puppy? Ok. That is the question that has been bothering me. I always wanted someone on the forum to ask that question and poof... it would be answered. Ok. What are the things I need to know about picking the right yorkie pup? I am worry that I will pick the wrong one or something. I do want a bossy one. I heard that getting a sly pup would be a BIG mistake but I don't believe it. Now I am turning to you yorkietalkers to help me! Please!

YT Addict | When I got my Alex and when my folks got their Golden Retriever pup there was a couple things we looked for. Which one responded too me, which one moved well, which one listen when I called and talked, which one didn't shy away from loud noises. I know there is more, but can't think of it off the top of my head. Hope this helps a little, it isn't much. Good luck!!!

| When I got Esme, I knew I wanted a medium sized yorkie, not too big, not a tiny and I knew I wanted a female. That left me with two to choose from. Then I looked at their faces and how they were behaving with the other puppies. I picked Esme because she had a very sweet face AND because the other dog was biting the other puppies! Which is ironic, because Esme has turned out to be a biter! I think the above poster had some great suggestions!

| She chose us! It depends on what your looking for? Male or Female? I personally prefer a male, their energy is so much different. My 12 week old female Abigail, was constantly playing with our male Artie, when we brought him to the Breeder's home. We wanted to see what the Parents looked like, her pedigree etc. Her coat/coloring, checked her teeth to see if they were straight as well as her back, checked the size of her ears if they were standing erect. Basically her conformation. We purposely were looking for a medium sized one, she was the first born in the litter, the all looked identical, she was the largest one and the "Alpha", she was very outgoing, fearless and her personality was aggressive. I could have chose the quiet one that was a loner that kept to herself? But I knew that one would be too independent and too aloof. Abigail, turned out to be the right choice, but that's what I was looking for, she's rough and ready for anything and she keeps up with Artie. You have got to do your own research and decided what physical traits you do and don't want and theny ou base it on their personality. Good Luck! |

| I think the most important factor is identifying a good breeder. I did not get to choose Mason out of a litter. He was the only boy in a litter of 3. Plus the breeder was in Ohio and I live in NY so I did not pick him up. He was shipped to me. I saw him for the first time at the airport That said, Mason is extremely friendly, sociable, loyal, and mild-tempered. I'm sure puppies have different personalities at birth, but it also depends a lot on how they are raised at early stages of their lives (up to 12 weeks). I knew that Mason had loving human parents who cared very much about raising great puppies. And he turned out to be a great puppy indeed (well, other than chewing my specs to pieces ) I would guarantee though, that you will fall in love with whatever puppy you choose!! You just can't help it |

| Sincerly , I did not choose my Yorkies . They chose me . One afternoon , I went to Zsa Zsa's breeder just to look at the puppies . The puppies were on the floor , I was talking with the breeder and there was always the same puppy coming to me and putting her little paw on my shoe and looking at me just as she was about to say " Take me home with you " . I returned her with the other pups but a minute later she was near me . I never regret it for a minute . |

| I think if you are having a puppy shipped you can explain your personality desires to he breeder. They are so good at matching the right puppy with the right family. They will be very honest (I have found) because they want a happy customer. If yiu get to pick a puppy I would also trust the breeder to pick out a couple that match your desires since they have known them since birth and can determine their personalities better than anyone. You could then choose after the breeder has narrowed it for you. All of my dogs have different personalities and I do love them all but some traits are preferable to others. Good luck! |

| I agree - a good breeder will do their best to match a puppy to your needs. They know which ones are shy, outgoing, quiet, loud, etc.. If you describe what you are looking for to your breeder, more often than not they will know which puppy is best for you and your lifestyle since they've already spent so long with the puppies.
