| Car Traveling with Ginger Question? Hi everyone...Need your advice on a 7 hour car trip taking Ginger with us. We haven't gone on a long car trip with Ginger before and need to know what to expect. We plan on stopping every 2 hrs and letting her walk about, but what should we take in an emergency bag if she were to throw up, etc. Is it even a good idea to take her with us or should we have someone to stay home with her. We would love for her to see ocean and would love for her to be with us, but we have only taken her on hour or two car trips. Does your yorkie travel well? How can I make this as pleasant as possible for her and us? Would love to hear any suggestions or advice. Yes Sir, She's my Baby Lynn |

| 7 hours is a long time. I would plan on a once a hour stop. I wouldn't let her eat too much before the trip, and give her Nutrical or similar product to eat instead.

| How does she act on your shorter car trips? If she enjoys them or just lays down and goes to sleep, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would feed her normally too. Nutrical is oily and is only a supplement or used to perk up a dog with low blood sugar in order to be able to eat. My dog loves to go for car trips and after a while just lays down and falls asleep. I would just stop every few hours just as often as if you were at home or if you have to stop. She should be just fine. |

| I have taken both with me when I go to Florida to see the family. they do really well I'm not sure how offten we stop about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. the total trip takes about 24 hrs drive time. they do great I just make sure they have comfy place to sleep. they really want to be on my lap though. here is a picture from our drive to go camping last month. I think she'll be fine don't worry to much. |

| If she's fine on the one or two hour trips I'm sure she'll do well. We take our Ginger everywhere, and stop every couple of hours for a short walk. -On really long trips, we try to find a state park where we can spend about an hour somewhere around the half way point. The hardest part is finding a place for us (humans) to eat. I either pack snacks, or we take our folding chairs along, go through a drive through and sit in whatever shade we can find. She gets food and water, we eat, and on we go. Once the only shade we could find was in a large circle of grass beside the drive through lane. Everyone enjoyed waving at us as they drove up to order their food! LOL

| We take Rexy and Rowdy with us every summer on our 1-2 month "camping" trek. We pull a 5th wheel travel trailer and travel from 4-7 hours per day, when we are on the road. By the time we get home, they will have ridden 3000-4000 miles in the pickup. They are ALWAYS ready to go!!! They do great - they usually sleep all of the time we are on the road. We don't stop unless they wake up and look restless, like they need to go potty or when we need to go potty We take along dry food and water in the car - and I usually have paper towels for a throw up episode, of which we have had none (thank goodness). We take a few chew toys, which they chew on for about 5-10 minutes, then they pass out and sleep. One caution is to watch for trash on the ground when you stop to let her go potty, it can be really bad in places. Rowdy wouldn't touch anything on the ground.....Rexy on the other hand, would eat anything, I think! So I have to really watch him. She should do fine, if she has been OK on 1-2 hour trips - I wouldn't leave her at home.

| My girls all do fine in the car. We have drove 3 hours without stopping. My girls sleep most of the way, and we try not to stop if they are sleeping. Eat before you leave and take snacks. I wouldn't feed her before you leave but take some food for the car. If she doesn't vomit after about 4 hours you can give her a small amount of food. Feed her food to her like treats. Good luck and I'm sure she'll be fine.. OH yeah, I pack a diaper bag for my girls for in the car. I take a small bottle of water, small baggie of food, nutrical, baby wipes 2 extra blankets (in case they vomit) and a chewy.

| We recently took a 10 hour trip (Georgia to Louisiana) with Tye. He did fine. he was harnessed in in the middle of the back seat and slept most of the time. We made many stops to get water, walk, potty, etc but he was GREAT. I took treats to share in the car if needed, water and of course food. He isn't one for toys or stuffed things so he was fine just laying there and being with us. Enjoy your trip !!

| Thanks everyone for great ideas! Thanks for all the really great advice and list of supplies I should take on our trip. I stopped by the vet today and she said she could give me a tranquilzer for Gin-Gin to take if she is restless. On the 1-2 hr trips she usually sleeps. I was just a little nervous about taking her with us, but after hearing about your experiences with your babies, I think we'll do just fine. We enjoy her being with us so very much and she seems to enjoy (?) being with us as well. Will be sure to take her Nutrical as she is such a picky eater and sometimes it is hard to get her to eat anything...then we get in trouble with that low blood sugar thing. Anyways, thanks again for your replies to my question. Ginger is the spice in my life.aimeeyork Lynn |

Mine have always done great with trips - even long trips. I've always packed along my own case of emergency supplies when we traveled. Stuff for upset tummies, diarrhea, tums, bandages, hydrocortizone spray and cream, a triple anti-biotic cream, scissors, tweezers (just in case a tick shows up), and last but not least - nutrical. Occasionally, Muffin needed Nutrical, so it went everywhere with us just in case...
