| Daily Grooming Hi everyone, I'm sure you must have heard this a lot but ever since I got Violeta everytime (wich is everyday) I try to brush her hair and clean her eyes its a complete war with her. She just HATES the brush, she wont stay still for a moment and ever since she notices the brush she starts fighting with it and barking of course... I still brush her because I know its good for her but I also want it to be a pleasant experience for both of us. NEED SOME ADVISE PLEASE!!! Thanks. |

| Bella doesn't exactly like getting brushed but I keep telling her good girl as I am brushing her and then give her a treat after. She loves treats so it is helping a little bit, maybe try some treats

| my pup 'tiny' is fine with grooming although he tries to eat his comb which makes it a bit difficult... not to go off subject but, is there anything available for eye boogies? I always have to comb those out but they come right back the next day...any suggestions?

| I have the same problem, but what helps me is when I start to brush & comb sami I give him his own little brush to bite on. and he can only have it at his grooming time, and this really seems to distract him from being brushed while he takes it out on his brush |

| I bought eye wipes at Petco. They don't smell and Bella doesn't mind them. I wipe her eyes every morning. They are by Petkin and the bottle just says Soft & Gentle Jumbo Eye Wipes and have a photo of a dog on it. There are 80 in a container much like a baby wipe container. It says wipes away daily dirt and tear stains

| hi. Diesel didn't really like being groomed at first either. I have found that if you keep doing it anyways they will realize that it's going to happen whether they like it or not. I have had diesel for about 2 months. He is very good about getting his hair combed and brushed each day now and I always give him praise and a treat after his daily grooming. |

| I just got a puppy last week. When he falls asleep, he will let me do anything to him. Try gently picking her up when she is napping and petting her for a bit...then work gently with your grooming tools. I had 2 Maltese before...the first one, we got at 6 weeks...way too early, but I started grooming him right away, and he always loved it. My second was a female...we didn't get her until she was 6 months old, and she was a little harder to groom...so far this little guy is great! Ann

| My "trick" with Tia is, I put her on the couch then get on my knees and groom her that way. For some reason, in that position she tolerates it much better than if she is in my lap. She also does well on the kitchen counter. She doesn't love being groomed (especially hates the spray) but every time seems to get better and better. Today she let me do her face really well with a minimal of squirming. I'm hoping that she'll eventually just learn to accept that she's getting groomed every day. Sandy is fine about it until I go to put something in her hair - then she is not a happy girl!

| I think the trick is to just keep it up and they will eventually get used to it and expect it and be stilluntil it's over. |

He doesn't like getting his nails clipped, especially his back feet, but he's 75% better about it now. With time it will happen

| Gucci used to bite and bark at the brush. The Slicker Wire Brush she didnt like. Im using now a pin brush, she likes that one. It took me a while but every day gets better. She still doesnt like it too much to be brush on her face. I place her on top of the table and hold her by the collar(witout pulling of course) and she stay stills. To brush her face hair or clean her eye boogies I hold without pulling her mustache. So far it has work fine. Yes keep trying and your baby will get used to it. Im still working on cutting her nails, she still doesnt like that one. Last edited by Marie; 04-26-2005 at 04:37 PM. |
