| I just spoke to a Michigan State Trooper and he said in Michigan, when something like this is reported, the animals are taken, with or without owners permission and the owners are prosecuted. Most times they do not serve jail time, although the arresting officers would like to see that but he states they usually get off after court with a hefty fine but are not allowed to own another animal anytime in the near future.

| going to do some foot work today I'm leaving in a few minutes to talk to the lady at the shelter and the police. I e-mailed the 3 stations here about it last night. DazzleYT lives in this area and is going to try to find out more info on this rescue group too. As soon as I find out something I'll let you guys know.

| i did send a email to that rescue group telling them they need to call the local authorties asap even the police and the reply i got was they will not take the dogs or do anything they would just get a warning then that lady won't want to work with them. something to that effect...so are they intending on buying those dogs from someone who let them get into that bad of shape? i seriously don't think anyone should profit from abusing animals in any way espically someone who would sit around and basically watch their yorkies rott!!

| i found he email reply here it is! what i wrote..."you need to report that "breeder" now with the mangy yorkies to the local authorities be it the police or aspca or anything at all!" rescue reply "they won't do anything, I've tried.?and if we continue to alienate this horrible person, then we won't be able to save these dogs?or all the rest they have. It just isn't that simple as calling the police. In this area they do not enforce any animal cruelty laws. The most they would do is write a citation but would NOT take the dogs. Then she wouldn't give them to me to save. "

| Wait You guys this is EASTERN TN...we are the redneck capital of the world, you go through any town around here, and you will find dogs chained in the front yard of people's houses (or trailers! lol) running wild, pregnant, starving, need I go on? THIS IS THE NORM for around here..sad and sick, but true! This is a rural area (Madison Co.) the police are likely not going to do anything, they are too busy busting Meth Labs (the newest pass time of the rednecks) and if people get the media involved, etc. Then the woman who is willing to surrender these dogs (yes even for a price) may tell them to $%#$ off, and then NOTHING will be done. If you want to help, then SIT TIGHT, send donations, be willing to foster or adopt a dog, but don't get involved and take matters into your own hands. Let the people who know what they are doing here do it, it is obviously a situation where they are having to tread lightly. These kind of people who own these yorkies likely don't realize they are doing anything wrong, or that their dogs NEED to be rescued. Still working on finding out about this rescue, and the validity of this case..will post info when I have it. Jeanie I am shocked at your opinion. Rescuers work their BUTTS off, there is no need to create a "scam" when there are PLENTY of dogs needing rescuing. I am SURE these folks who are taking care of this situation wish they had LESS important things to worry about.. now they are going to be flooded with basicly wild, sick dogs...and people are calling them scammers, that hurts my heart. FYI be careful what you wish for when you wish to see PETA involved! I witnessed PETA "freeing the poor caged animals" at a HUGE dog show in down town memphis as a child, those dogs ran out into downtown memphis traffic and were KILLED...but to PETA it was a success mission, they were FREE! PETA is nothing but a radical group that causes entirely WAY more harm than good. Quote:

| Okay I have been in contact with Laurie, the director of the rescue. You guys, this is legitimate..she is not out to scam anyone. There will be the first 3 dogs (of several!) taken out this TUESDAY..straight to the vet. IF YOU CARE TO MAKE A DONATION (this is going to be an extremely expensive rescue as the dogs are in terrible condition), you may donate straight to the vet under the name of the rescue..and it will be used ONLY TO VET THESE DOGS. I have the name and number of the vet if anyone is sincere about wanting to make a donation, you may contact me, and I will give you the info on where you can send money. Laurie will keep the site updated with a photo diary and text on every step of this rescue...so you can rest assured she isn't a SCAMMER. (it makes me sad my fellow yorkie lovers are such skeptics). I will be out of town from tomorrow morning early til late Sunday evening for a show, but will give the phone number/etc. info for the vet to anyone who inquires SERIOUSLY when I return. I have offered my help with temporary fostering and transporting if needed. BLESS LAURIE FOR WHAT SHE IS DOING!

| This was on the rescue site today...UPDATE # 2 AUGUST 25:Many people have asked about getting the authorities involved and getting the breeder shut down instead. Quite simply that is not an option. We were told that as long as they have shelter, food and water they can't do anything. Unfortunately this is happening at puppymills and breeding facilities around the country en mass. There are no laws or enforcement. The varying counties in the individual states control the enforcement and individual laws. In the rural south where there isn't even animal control, there simply is no enforcement of animal cruelty laws. There are other dogs in other locations this "family of breeders" has. I have been told they will release them as well. I simply cannot put their lives in danger by alerting the authorities who will do nothing more than alert her to the fact she was turned in. Then I will lose the trust she has in me and the dogs will suffer. Do we need better laws? Should they be enforced? Should she rot in jail forever? Should she never be allowed to breed or own a dog again? In my opinion yes to all. But I can't singlehandedly make that happen. That needs to be done by lawmakers and be supported by the AKC and the public. All I can do is save these dogs I have seen personally. Their eyes begged for my help. And I simply will not jeopardize them. I will not turn my back on them. They are getting out. I will make certain of it. We do need your donations for their vet care. You may donate directly to our vet. We also wil post a photo diary of every step of their recovery on our "main website" on our "How you can help" page. We can only save lives one at a time until the public, the lawmakers and the various animal registries change things. And for everyone who still chooses to buy from a breeder or puppymill, think twice. I wonder how many families got their cute little puppy from this breeder? READ THE ENTIRE STORY BELOW. Our rescue needs your help. We have been contacted by another breeder about many Yorkies needing our help. We were able to infiltrate this breeder's deplorable facility and have seen the conditions first hand. She happens to be a relative of the Maltese breeder we are rescuing dogs from. They all have mange, some severe. They are suffering. We have tried to figure out our options to help these babies. The choices are limited. The county offers no animal control, no laws, no help. They say they can do nothing. If we make it public then our ability to help the other dogs in other family member's houses (who are also breeders) will be non-existent. We are in the position where we have only one option. GET THEM OUT. We were there today, Saturday, August 19. We could not get pictures. We are trying to get pictures when we go back tomorrow or as soon as we can. We simply need to get them out. We will need to board all of these babies at our vets while they receive veterinary care for their horrible mange and who knows what else. We are just going to try to get the dogs and worry about the rest after they are OUT but we definately need money for their ongoing care and treatment and boarding fees. WE ABSOLUTELY CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT SUBSTANTIAL DONATIONS. Our funds are already depleted. All we want to do is alleviate their suffering and get them treated if it is humanely possible and eventually into loving homes. These babies do not deserve to suffer so terribly and then just die in a horribly cruel and inumane manner. Please help! We will update as soon as we have some more info. As soon as we can safely get pictures we will. Donations may be sent to: Precious Paws Peke and Tzu Asian Dog Rescue P.O. Box 697 Madisonville, TN 37354 Or go to http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=6865654
