| Some might think this is kind of silly, but I wanted a male Yorkie, 5 to 7lbs, related to my Koko who passed away last summer. I was so happy when I found out that after 16 yrs had gone by, Koko's breeder still raises puppies. I was very lucky to get Ziggy who is a great nephew of Koko's.

We found a breeder within an hour's drive, and she had several females. The parents were on site, and I 'met' them. Both were lighter in color than what I thought a Yorkie should be , but their temperament was great. The pups were raised in the house, and all of them were playful, and unafraid. One little girl 'took' to my hubby. Everytime he'd stand still, she'd come and lay her head on his foot! (aaawwwww) This was also the more energetic of the litter. Abbie was the 'runt', and she seemed to gravitate to me. But, her independence and FACE is what won my heart! Attached is a pic of her at 8weeks (2.2lbs). I felt good about our purchase, because the breeder seemed so open (well, except for the registration - she limited that!). We left with her vet's phone #, and the phone #s of several families who had purchased pups from her in the past (and, "yes", I did call), and an invitation to 'keep in touch'. I did not get the feeling this breeder was just in it for the $$$. She was concerned about where the pup would live, and what she would be eating. "If I knew then, what I know now" - I wouldn't have my heart 'set' on a small dog. The health issues just scare me to pieces. Abbie's dam was 9lbs, and her sire, 8lbs. Abbie is 6lbs at 8months - and, who knows if she's stopped growing?! I HOPE she has - she seems the 'perfect' size right now! lol I know, I know...we ALL feel ours' is the 'perfect' size, no matter what size they are!

| When I got Louie, I was just like a few other people. I didn't know anything besides I have been wanting one my whole life. I seen how cute Louie was at 9 weeks and how sad his eyes were due to puppymill life. So I brought him home with me. When looking for Elle, I took my time. I looked for these things: healthy pup reputable breeder money female temperment dark coloring size ears and face I found exactly what I was looking for....(well after a few let downs on the way)

| When I got my first yorkie, I was looking for a breeder within driving distance who had a female NOW! I thought I was pretty educated about yorkies but I was SO not! What I was, was very impatient. Luckily, Gracie is a health dog. I would say the most important thing is the reputation of the breeder.

| When I got Tia, this is what I looked for: 1. PERSONALITY - Very important to me! I wanted an affectionate and KISSY dog because I love to hug and cuddle my babies! 2. COLORING - I wanted a dog who would turn goldish blonde when full grown and that is exactly what Tia is turning into. She is really stunning. 3. HEALTH - She has had NO problems at all THANK GOD and my vet said she is in excellent health. This was VERY important to me because my last Yorkie princess Katie (RIP little angel) was diagnosed with a severe case of kidney disease. 4. SIZE AND LENGTH - I wanted a small girl who was not super long. Tia's body (in my opinion) is the perfect size and length and totally in proportion. 5. EARS - I am not talking about ears standing up on flopping over. I am talking about big bat eas LOL I wanted her to have tiny little girly ears and she sure does.

| 1. Breeder - Wanted someone who would take the time to really talk to me since I had never had a yorkie. I actually called some local show dog folks, whose names I got off the internet, & was surprised how willing they were to just talk to me about the breed. They also reffered some breeders since none of them had any available. 2. Availability - I'm very impatient. When I got my fiance' to agree to let me have a dog (it took 4 years!) then I wanted one yesterday! 3. Personality 4. Size - not too small, not too big. I wanted between 4-6 lbs. As far as health, I figured a good breeder assured that. As far as money & sex, It really didn't matter until I got to meet the pups & the girls were a little bit more expensive. I went with the boy (they all had great personalities) |

Other things: 1. For every yorkie I looked at, I also looked at pics of the parents or looked at the parents in person. If the parents were cute, chances were, my yorkie was going to be cute! 2. Size -- I wanted one that was going to be 3-5 lbs full grown. 3. Price -- I wanted to pay UNDER $1000. 4. Cuteness of the puppy 5. The first yorkie we got, we specifically wanted a boy...so SEX would be one thing I was looking for. Last edited by RLC12345678; 08-06-2006 at 09:39 AM. | |

| well with scampi i didnt pick him he picked me lol, i went looking for a ckc and then this little yorkie catched my eye he had so much spirit he was beating up a collie 3 times his size lol he came over to me and kissed me and that was that i just knew he was the one and took him home, lucky for me he never was ill in all his 15 years of life. the breeder i got sasha from came to my house with 2 girls and a boy for me to choose from and sasha was the second pup i picked up and as soon as i looked in her eyes i just knew she was the one, so for me its not about what they look like or there breeding its just a feeling i get when i look in there eyes.

| Mine was: Health (how long did grandparents, parents, etc live...and what kinds of problems have shown up in the line: cataracts, cancer, etc.) What was fed (homeprepared etc) limited vaccines in the line personality: funny, smart, outgoing, athletic (for agility and hiking), LOVING, CRAZY...I like a nutty dog with LOT's of energy. color (dark) Size (mom was 5.5 and dad was 6) because of my bad back and I want to take him everywhere...unfortunatly he is up to 8lb :-( I met the parents ahead of time. I like the mother SO much that I may take her when the breeder is done breeding. Beautiful colors. Sweet girl. suz |

| Initailly i was looking for First and foremost I wanted a healthy baby. I had just been through a situation where I was sent a sick pomeranian puppy from a breeder who died from parvo less then a week after getting him (if you look at my old post, you'll see the story) 2. I wanted a male hands down, i love lil boyz . I was offered smaller females for the same price of my male and turned them down. 3. I wanted a tiny, not super tiny but small (3.5-4.5 lbs), but a sturdy pup, not a super fine boned, fragile one 4. I wanted a dark coat (rust and black) 5. I wanted a short muzzle button eyes, overall teddy bear look 6. I wanted short legs 7.chubby(I wanted a pup with a lil belly, haha so random) 8. I wanted a cuddle bug 9. If the parents were cute, genes are strong my friends haha What I want now 1.Must be healthy! 2.Must me a male 3. I still want a small one, but more like 3.5-6.5 lbs. fully grown(as long as he's cute, who cares how big he is) 4. a dark coat(rust and black) 5.teddy bear face, short muzzle, button eyes ( I love short faces, my favorite breed along with yorkies are Pekingese) 6.chubby puppy(pup with a belly, still random LOL) 7. short legs 8. a cuddle bug 9. if the parents were cute! Not much has changed, i guess I like what I like
