"Ditto", here! I wanted a female Yorkie sooooooo badly, I shudder to think how little I knew, and what a mess I could have gotten into because of my zeal and impatience! Once I decided this is what I wanted - I wanted it NOW! I knew I did NOT want my pup shipped. I wanted a small, healthy, confident female. I hadn't seen many Yorkie pups, to even know what to look for re conformation - I just figured I 'know' my pup when I saw her! And, $$$ definitely was a factor, since we weren't showing or breeding.

We found a breeder within an hour's drive, and she had several females. The parents were on site, and I 'met' them. Both were lighter in color than what I thought a Yorkie should be , but their temperament was great. The pups were raised in the house, and all of them were playful, and unafraid. One little girl 'took' to my hubby. Everytime he'd stand still, she'd come and lay her head on his foot! (aaawwwww) This was also the more energetic of the litter. Abbie was the 'runt', and she seemed to gravitate to me. But, her independence and FACE is what won my heart! Attached is a pic of her at 8weeks (2.2lbs). I felt good about our purchase, because the breeder seemed so open (well, except for the registration - she limited that!). We left with her vet's phone #, and the phone #s of several families who had purchased pups from her in the past (and, "yes", I did call), and an invitation to 'keep in touch'. I did not get the feeling this breeder was just in it for the $$$. She was concerned about where the pup would live, and what she would be eating.

"If I knew then, what I know now" - I wouldn't have my heart 'set' on a small dog. The health issues just scare me to pieces. Abbie's dam was 9lbs, and her sire, 8lbs. Abbie is 6lbs at 8months - and, who knows if she's stopped growing?! I HOPE she has - she seems the 'perfect' size right now! lol I know, I know...we ALL feel ours' is the 'perfect' size, no matter what size they are!
