Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I'm Freaking Out!!!! Well i was coming in the house from taking the pups outside and my sister was right behind me well i came in pup the pus down and then my sister came in and shut the door well i hear this blood curdaling screach and thought someone stepped on the puppies but when i turned around it wasn't coming from in the house my sister opedned the door and there was peeka screaming she had shut his foot in the door! I quickly grabed him he was screaming for like 5 min and finally he settleled down. Well i put him on the floor to see if he woulod walk and instintly new it was bad he wouldn't even put it on the ground so i called the vet and they told me to bring him in! As i was getting ready to leave he started to walk on it but i was gonna take him anyway. Well he cryed all the way there and really freaked out when i walked in the door because we were just there on monday for thier shots well i get back in the room and a diff vet came in from the one i see well i thought peeka was gonna have a heartattack he was shaking and crying and giving me that please save me look. The vet said his hip thigh leg and ankle seem ok but his toes are really swollen so he said we need to get an x-ray it costs $130.00. I said ok because he told me that if it's broke i had to be concerned about his growth plate. well they took him back and the vet came in to talk while he was back there i asked if it was broke what were we gonna do. well he told me he would have to put him under to put on a cast and i said well i've done a lot of reaserch on this breed and i know there are some anesthesia that can kill them was it safe for him to be out this little he told me i hadn't done a very good job in researching this breed because it's all the same no breed has a speacial need for anesthesia( I was P'OD) well he came back out and said the x-ray machine is down so they gave me pain meds and sent me home saing to come back tomarrow for an x-ray. But when i got home peeka acts fine he's trying to run around and play he's walking on it he's supposed to be in the kennal but he seems fine now. Should i take him back and pay $130.00 for an x-ray or do you all think he'll be ok?

| I’m so sorry that must have been terrible. I freak out when Ginger gets hurt, so I can only imagine how you felt. It’s really a tough call though. I think if she keeps playing and using that foot, I wouldn’t spend the $130. That’s just me though. I have spent so much money in the past playing on the side of caution. Sometimes it’s just not necessary. But if she’s not 100% by tomorrow and your gut says she needs it, then by all means get her the x-ray. I hope she feels better soon!

| I would definitely go back to the vet and see the regular vet that is familiar with the pup.

| If it were broken he would not be running and playing. I'd watch it and if the swelling gets worse, or if he starts to favor it then I'd take him in. Otherwise I'd say it was just a bad pinched toe. And we know how a pinched finger can hurt. |

| If Peeka is putting weight on the foot, there is no swelling and he acts fine, then I wouldn't go back for the xray. Give Peeka get well hugs and kisses from chattiesmom and crew! |

| I think I would just keep an eye on him. It doesn't seem as if it were broke. Specially if he lets you touch it and bend it. But that's my opinion.

| When your pup's foot was hurting so much - an x-ray would have told the vet whether it was broken or not..... But - since he is getting around so much better - I suspect there is no fracture. Watch him for a day or two - if he continues to do well, I wouldn't go back for any further treatment at all. But if there is a problem - it will show itself again before long - and a few days spent waiting to see won't hurt your puppy at all. I worked in x-ray for 25 years and can't tell you how many people came in with a broken foot or ankle, etc., after having walked on it for a week. It didn't get better, so they finally came in. And, they were none the worse for having waited .... not for the simple type of fracture that your dog might have......but probably doesn't have at all.... Good luck! Carol Jean |

| I would take him to the vet too. Just to make sure. $130.00 spent now can save you thousands later if there is something broken not to mention he will grow up without complications in the future. I'm so sorry he's been hurt. Give him bunch of kisses from me and Jazzie! Please let us know what you decide to do.

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | i think i'm gonna wait i just feel like a bad mom for not getting the x-ray but i tell you he really doesn't seem like there is anything wrong now but he is on pain meds so i dunno? the biggest concern i have is the vet told me it's possible if he did break it he could've broke the growth plate so thats freaky. i just hope i'm not terrible for not wanting to get the x-ray done if not needed i really don't mind paying but i really don't have the money right now.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Poor baby !! That must have been so hard to hear him cry like that... You know your yorkie best - if you think there is something wrong, even with him walking on it - I would take him in - but if he's acting normal and showing no signs of pain - then I'd probably do what you're thinking and hold off...... All the best to him and I hope that accident didn't do any real damage. They're SO fast that can happen easily to any of us with doors... Sending him get well wishes & hugs from the girls - I hope he'll be ok !! |
