When your pup's foot was hurting so much - an x-ray would have told the vet whether it was broken or not.....
But - since he is getting around so much better - I suspect there is no fracture.
Watch him for a day or two - if he continues to do well, I wouldn't go back for any further treatment at all.
But if there is a problem - it will show itself again before long - and a few days spent waiting to see won't hurt your puppy at all.
I worked in x-ray for 25 years and can't tell you how many people came in with a broken foot or ankle, etc., after having walked on it for a week. It didn't get better, so they finally came in. And, they were none the worse for having waited .... not for the simple type of fracture that your dog might have......but probably doesn't have at all....
